How to Keep the Characters Alive
In House of Ashes, one decision does not kill a character. You can rest easy if you think one decision decides it all. However, if you get multiple of them wrong, it could lead to your favorite character in the game dying. To avoid character deaths, the best way to do that would be to prevent potential death scenes. We have broken down all of the deadly encounters below so that you keep all your characters alive.
Jason Kolchek
Jason can die in four different ways in House of Ashes. All of these potential death scenes are at the end of the game, so watch out for them when you come across them.
To begin, Jason will die in the Semper Fi chapter if you choose to help Salim and fail on the quick-time event. Next, Jason will also be killed by Balathu during the Semper Fi chapter if you decide to support Salim, complete the first quick-time event, and fail to evade Balathu’s spear in another quick-time event.
The following two ways Jason can also be killed during the final battle if fans fail the quick-time event when they are inside the hut. The other way is that enemies could kill him if you fail two quick-time events back to back on the final battle on the ground.
Nick Kay
Nick Kay has the fewest potential death scenes in House of Ashes. In the Vault Chapter, if you cannot complete the quick-time event when you decide to approach the cacoons, he will die. He will also be killed by enemies when you come above the surface and manage to fail on two quick-time events.
Just like Jason, they are all nearing the end of the game. Nick may also have his neck snapped by Balathu during the Vault chapter if you manage to get all the quick-time events on the spot but fail on the QTEs after that.
Salim Othman
Just like Nick, Salim also has there potential encounters with death in the game. Enemies could kill him if you fail on the quick-time event during the Semper Fi Chapter. Enemies will also kill him if all the other characters leave him behind during the same chapter. The last one is when you are on the surface, and you fail two quick-time events during the final battle with the enemies.
Eric King
Eric is the only character who has seven potential deaths in the game. You can say it was as if the developers did not like him being alive in the game. You will need to be on your toes to save Eric and not let him die if you want the trophy of keeping all the characters alive. There will be a threat to his life during the Breaking Up chapter. He will be shot down twice by Dar, and he will fall and die after being cut by a stalagmite if you fail to finish the quick time event and decide not to cut the ropes. In the same chapter, he will still die if you decide not to cut the ropes again.
During the Fall Chapter, Eric will be shot and killed by Salim if you decide to send him in the tunnel, and if Nick fails the limited-time event inside the Truce chapter, when you go through the Assault chapter, if you choose to send him down the path with the explosives, he will die in an explosion, marking a horrible death.
As you play through the horror chapter, Eric will have another encounter with death. You can avoid it if you don’t choose to keep vampire Clarice with you after she is affected by the enemies. He will die if you do not help him get up after slipping in the Ancient One chapter. In the final battle, when you are on the surface, he will also die if you manage to fail two limited-time events.
Rachel King
Now moving on to the second-highest character with potential deaths in the game. You will also have to be very aware of the game to keep Rachel alive. When you are in the Assault chapter, make sure to fire with the machine gun and fail during the quick-time event to make sure she lives.
She will also die like Eric if you send her down the path where the explosives are. She will also die if you let Jason shoot her inside the Strange Aeons Chapter. In the same chapter, she will die if you bring white phosphorus and let her cut through a canister.
Vampire Clarice also kills her inside the Semper Fi Chapter if she does not get shot during the Assault chapter and you cannot finish the quick-time event. Just like Eric, she will also die on the surface in the final battle if you fail two quick-time events.
