Ever since Riot Games revealed their first look at VALORANT, instant selection of popular agents has always been an issue. And Riot took a page out of League of Legends to solve this atrocious problem.
Similar to almost every other character-based game, choosing your favorite agent can be really daunting provided if you prefer to play with popular characters. In the current state of the game, if you want to select your main, you need fast hands to secure your agent at the start of the agent selection menu.
If multiple players want to select the same agent, only one with the fastest reaction time can win. And it creates an unhealthy start to a match since players who couldn’t select their main start getting less cooperative during the matches.

In order to solve this issue, Riot Games is working on introducing cascade picking in VALORANT similar to how it works in League of Legends.
Cascade picking could solve agent selection fiasco
In Cascade picking, only one player can select an agent at the same time. The first person usually gets around 15-20 seconds to pick their agent. And then the selection process moves on to the next player and continues until every player in the squad picks an agent. If you don’t select an agent, it’ll simply just pass you and you can choose later down the line.
This simple agent selection rework would eliminate the hassle of picking your agent with lightning-fast reaction time. Instead, players will be able to have ample time to discuss their agent composition and come up with a better roster combination.
Cascade picking is still in the works at Riot Games. According to data miners, it will arrive in a future Act. However, Riot Games hasn’t revealed any exact timeline as to when this feature might arrive.
