The mobile version of COD was released back in last year and turned out to be a great success for Activision.
Just like most other massive mobile games, it was developed by Chinese giant Tencent. Last year was great for COD mobile as it garnered quite a large audience in such a short period of time outside China.

Now, COD mobile is set to officially launch in mainland China. As China has very strict rules and regulations regarding any form of media in their country, the official version of the game will be altered to comply with Chinese law.

COD mobile is already turning out to be a massive success for Activision as they already reached 55 million pre-registration as of writing. Call of Duty is a big franchise in the west, but in china the story is quite different as there are some strict restrictions in place.
Publishers sometimes have to release a slightly different version of the same game to meet the demands of the Chinese authorities. A good example of that would be PUBG mobile. Tencent made some additional changes to comply with the overwhelming demand from Chinese gamers.

Mobile gaming is currently taking the world by storm. Since China is one of the biggest consumer markets overtaking the USA in some cases, it makes a lot of sense for Activision to pursue the Chinese mobile gaming market.
