How to Get the Orphic Hammer in BG3
Deal with Raphael
The easiest way to get the Orphic Hammer in the game is to receive it from the devil Raphael. During the Free Orpheus quest in Act 3, you will meet Raphael in the Sharess’ Caress brothel in the South Span of Wyrm’s Crossing. After meeting Raphael, he will offer you the Orphic Hammer for the first time in the game if you sign a contract. But the condition of the contract states that you will have to give up the Crown of Karsus to him after finishing the game.
Agreeing to go with the contract can bring tough consequences in the later stages of the game. However, if you decide to sign the contract, Raphael will instantly hand over the Orphic Hammer to you.
Steal from Raphael
If you choose not to sign the contract with Raphael, you will need to embark on a long and complicated quest in order to get the Orphic Hammer. To start this process, you must first reach the House of Hope. To do so, make your way to the Open Hand Temple and investigate a murder there. After successfully completing the investigation, you will be granted a pass to the Lower City.
Now, make your way to the Devil’s Fee in the lower city and meet Helsink. Helsink will be your key character to seek help from regarding entering the House of Hope. In this stage, you will have to ask Helsink to open the portal to the House of Hope for you. But nothing in Baldur’s Gate comes without a cost. Helsink will make you pay 20,000 Gold to open the portal for you. However, you can choose the following two dialogues to reduce the price by half.
- [PERSUATION] Waive the fee, and I’ll add one of Raphael’s artifacts to your collection.
- [INTIMIDATION] You’ll halve that price, or I’ll halve you.
Afterward, Helsink will provide you with the ingredients and the instructions to complete a ritual in order to open the portal. Head towards Helsink’s room, and you will find a star on the ground in which you will have to put the ingredients properly. After putting the ingredients in their place, you will open the portal to the House of Hope.
After reaching the House of Hope, interact with Hope and get a disguise to roam freely in the area. Now head towards the Archive and meet the Archivist. You will have to convince the Archivist to let you enter the Boudoir. Select the dialogues below to convince the archivist.

- [DETECT THOUGHTS] Access the schedule by reading his thoughts.
After getting access to Boudoir from the archivist, make your way inside, and you will meet a demon named Harleep. Here, you can either convince Herleep or kill him to get the key to Raphael’s safe. You can convince the demon by choosing the dialogue, “You can have my body, but not my mind.” However, you can also get the key by simply killing him.
After obtaining the key, head towards Raphael’s painting in the room. Press the button under the painting, and it will reveal a safe in front of you. You will find the Orphic Hammer floating inside. Now obtain the hammer, and make your way out of the place, as everyone will automatically start attacking you after you have successfully obtained the hammer.
