The next update for Battlefield 6’s first season is going to be a big deal for the series, and not only because of the new maps and weapons. DICE and EA are definitely trying to change how “Battlefield” works in the live-service era by adding a full-scale Battle Royale mode and a new Mission-Based “Gauntlet” Mode.

What’s coming: Battle Royale & Gauntlet Mode

Battlefield 6 Season 1 isn’t simply a fresh set of maps and weapons. It might be the biggest multiplayer push the series has ever made. With a full-scale Battle Royale and the new Mission-Focused Gauntlet mode, the stakes are enormous. If DICE can make vehicles, destruction, class roles, and objectives work on the scale that a Battlefield game offers, this might change the way “battle royale” is perceived. It’s a development that both fans of the franchise and competitive shooters should keep an eye on.

Here’s what we know so far:

Battle Royale

Battlefield 6 will have a full battle royale mode that combines the series’ trademark large-scale warfare, vehicle combat, and destructible landscapes with the last-man-standing mode. One interesting feature is the closing ring or the safe zone, which quickly kills any player or team that becomes entangled in it. There will be no gradual damage or “tanking” the storm.

There should be around one hundred players in squads (like four-player teams) on a custom map made just for this mode. The loot system and meta will still be based on Battlefield’s DNA, which includes vehicles, class roles, and strategy on big maps. The goal is to combine the sensation of “only in Battlefield moment” with Battle Royale.

Gauntlet Mode (Mission-Based)

Gauntlet is a mode that is based on objectives and elimination, and it uses the same map foundation as the Battle Royale mode. The notion is that a squad of players do a series of missions, including pillaging, extraction, or securing a zone. After each assignment, the team that does the worst gets kicked out until only the winner is left.

The mode will add modifiers and different types of missions that can be completed, so it’s not just “last team alive by kills,” but also “last team standing by mission success.” For example: Vendetta: eliminate all the marked targets.

Different Mission Types:

Heist: capture intel and escape
Extraction: deliver data drives to drones, avoid traps

There are still certain things that aren’t clear, but leaks and datamines point to Gauntlet coming with season 1 as part of the Battle Royale update or slightly after.

Release Date:

Accordign to recent datamined leaks, Battlefield 6 Free-to-Play battle royale and mission focused extraction mode will arrive alongisde Season 1 on October 28, 2025.
