Baldur’s Gate 3 is the latest RPG from Larian Studios that takes you back to D&D’s Forgotten Realms. Like any other RPG, BG3 also features a leveling system that signifies your character’s strength and capabilities in battle. However, the game’s character level cap might surprise you.
If you’re wondering how far you can level up your hero in BG3 and how to reach the max level quickly, then we’ve got you covered.
How Far Can You Level Up in BG3?

In modern times, players picking up any RPG expect to go down a rabbit hole of unending grinding to become the strongest hero. Typically, one might put in over 100 hours expecting their character to reach at least Level 100, if not more.
Although Baldur’s Gate 3 takes between 70-200 hours to beat, the character’s max level is capped at Level 12. If your jaw has dropped on the floor already, you might be even more shocked to learn that Larian Studios had initially planned on keeping the max level capped at Level 10.
However, they later changed their mind and added two additional levels in the full release of the game so that players could have access to higher-level spells and abilities.
Having said that, BG3 is based on D&D’s 5th Edition rules, where the max level is capped at Level 20. So, there is a slight possibility for Larian Studios to increase BG3’s current level cap through future updates, expansions, or DLCs.
How to Reach Max Level Fast in BG3?
The best and fastest way of ranking all the way up to the Max Level in BG3 is by playing the game as much as possible. As stated earlier, it might take players around 200 hours to beat the game completely and 70 hours if you solely focus on the story.
Although reaching Level 12 sounds easy, players will soon realize that it doesn’t work that way in Baldur’s Gate 3. If you truly wish to become the strongest hero (or villain) in the realm in the quickest way possible, then you must take down every enemy you encounter, do all side quests you find, and explore every nook and cranny in the world.
That way, you will rake in all the Experience Points you need for you and your party to rise through the ranks quickly. And if you feel a bit too overpowered, you can always challenge yourself by raising the difficulty level from the menu.
