ARC Raiders is still one of the biggest extraction shooters on Steam, but its player numbers are no longer anywhere near the massive highs it enjoyed around launch. Nearly eight months after release, Steam data shows a sharp decline in concurrent players, and fans are starting to worry about where Embarkโs sci-fi extraction shooter goes from here.
The drop has sparked a fresh wave of debate in the community, especially after Embark recently confirmed that ARC Raiders will now receive two major updates per year instead of a faster monthly content cadence.
ARC Raiders Steam Player Count Has Fallen Hard Since Launch
According to SteamDB, ARC Raiders launched on October 30, 2025, and quickly became a major hit on Steam. The game reached an all-time peak of 481,966 concurrent players on November 16, 2025, which put it among the biggest multiplayer releases of the year.
However, the current numbers tell a very different story. SteamDB recently showed the game sitting at around 41,000 players in-game, with a 24-hour peak just under 50,000. That is still a healthy number for most multiplayer games, but for ARC Raiders, it represents a massive fall from its early launch momentum.
SteamCharts paints the same picture. The game averaged more than 264,000 players in November 2025. Over the last 30 days, that average has dropped to roughly 51,000 players. That is a major decline in less than a year, and it explains why many longtime players are sounding the alarm.
Fans Are Blaming Embarkโs New Update Schedule
A big part of the concern comes from Embarkโs recent update schedule change. The studio explained that it originally planned to deliver monthly updates to keep ARC Raiders feeling fresh, but that pace was not sustainable for the kind of long-term experience it wants to build.
Instead, Embark is now shifting to two major updates per year. These updates are supposed to be larger, more meaningful, and more transformative. The studio also stressed that balance patches, bug fixes, live events, store updates, and smaller live service changes will continue between those bigger drops.
Still, for some players, that announcement landed at the wrong time. ARC Raiders is already seeing a noticeable drop in Steam activity, and the idea of waiting months between major content drops has made some fans nervous.
ARC Raiders Is Not Dead, But Momentum Is Clearly Slowing
It would be unfair to say ARC Raiders is dying. A game pulling tens of thousands of concurrent players on Steam is still in a strong position compared to most multiplayer titles. The issue is the scale of the drop.
ARC Raiders launched like a monster, and that creates a different standard. When a game peaks close to half a million players, falling to around 40,000 to 50,000 concurrent players feels dramatic, even if the remaining audience is still large.
Embark Is Betting Big on Quality Over Speed
Embarkโs argument is simple. The studio believes ARC Raiders needs deeper updates, not just frequent ones. Its next major update, Frozen Trail, is planned for October and is being described as the gameโs biggest update since launch.
Embark is betting that one huge update can do more for the game than several smaller ones spread across the year.
It is a risky strategy, but not an unreasonable one. Many live-service games burn out their developers by chasing constant content drops. If Embark can avoid that while still delivering meaningful updates, ARC Raiders could benefit in the long run.
The next few months will be important. If Embark can keep the community engaged through smaller updates, balance changes, events, and communication, Frozen Trail could bring a strong player rebound in October. But if players feel like there is not enough to do between now and then, the decline could continue.
