Respawn Entertainment and Electronic Arts have announced that support for Apex Legends on the original Nintendo Switch will conclude after Season 29. This decision signifies that the battle royale shooter will cease to receive updates on the handheld platform that originally launched it in 2021. Players who continue to relish the game on the original Switch can enjoy playing and earning rewards until August 4, 2026. After this date, the title will no longer connect to online services or be accessible on that hardware.

When Will the Support End?

Season 29 marks the concluding update for the original Nintendo Switch edition of Apex Legends. Starting August 4, 2026, with the launch of Season 30, the game will no longer be playable on that console, and users will experience the discontinuation of online features. In the meantime, players can keep diving into matches, rack up rewards, and fully enjoy their gaming experience. After that date, in-game premium currency purchases will no longer be available on Switch. However, any existing balances can still be utilized before support concludes.

Progress and Unlocks Will Carry Over

A lot of the time, players worry about losing progress when services go down. Respawn says that all players’ progress, purchases, cosmetics, and premium currency are linked to their own EA accounts and not the Switch hardware itself. This means that when players connect their EA accounts to Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation, Xbox, or PC, all of their unlocked items and other content go with them. If you upgrade to the new Nintendo Switch 2 after the service ends, you will still be able to utilize the same account to get everything you earned on the first Switch.

Respawn stated that stopping support for the original Nintendo Switch will enable the team focus on making the game’s content and technical base better on all platforms. The original Switch hardware had trouble with performance problems like frame rate drops and lag. These problems got worse as the game changed and new seasons added more complicated features. Respawn wants to keep giving users a better experience in the future by focusing development on systems like Nintendo Switch 2, which can run games at 60 frames per second and improve performance.

Only The Original Switch Port Will Be Affected

Apex Legends may be moving on from its original Switch version, but fear not! The game will thrive on Nintendo Switch 2 and remain fully supported across all major platforms, including PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Fans can look forward to a seamless rollout of updates, seasonal content, and online features across these platforms, providing ample opportunities to immerse themselves in the thrilling battle royale experience.
