The Showdown patch notes, which were released on August 4, 2025, by Respawn, include new systems that change the meta for Season 26, huge changes to the gameplay, buffs to legends, nerfs to weapons, and more.

What’s New This Season: Wildcard, Amps, RE‑45 Burst & Locked Hop‑Ups

  • Wildcard (New): A permanent 30‑player BR variant that allows legend stacking, self‑revive, simplified inventory, and auto-loot. Everything’s faster, bold, and packed with utility like EVO orbs that speed up shatter, shields, health, and revive timers.
  • Legend Amps: Scattered in mythic/legendary bins or care packages, these mid‑match buffs offer perks such as infinite ammo, extra shields, auto‑reload batteries, heal-over-time, or Tac/Ult cooldown reductions. Only one Amp per match makes every selection metered.
  • Elite Weapon – RE‑45 Burst: RE‑45 replaces Light‑ammo pepper with energy burst dynamics: spin-up mechanics, 3‑round bursts, and puncture through standard meta. A risky but stylish powerhouse for high‑skill play.
  • Locked Hop‑Ups: Hop‑Ups are now tied to weapons (no longer RNG looted). Unlock them mid‑match with damage/Arsenal upgrades or the new Hop‑Up Booster, ensuring planned, rather than lucky, power spikes.

Legend Reworks & Buffs: Caustic & Bangalore Power Plays

Caustic (Reworked for Area Control)

  • Nox Gas damage increased to 10–15 per second (was 4–10), now grounds enemies, obscures HUD, and sends aim‑punch feedback on hit.
  • New perk: Field Research—track gas damage, ring scans, and enemy poison kills to unlock up to 4 upgrade points over a match. Caustic can now max out every path in his upgrade tree.
  • Traps are tougher, larger (radius 260 → 300), last longer (11 s → 22 s), and activate slower with potential bullet crit stacking on base hits.
  • Ultimate cooldown reduced to 2 min, faster toss/stow, and longer duration.

Bangalore (Controller Flex & Smoke Assault Build)

  • Passive – Double Time now grants +5% movement speed.
  • Smoke Launcher: faster pull out/cooldown, smoke now breaks through doors, is EMP reactive to destroy traps or Ults for 5 s.
  • Sniper Ult – Rolling Thunder: cooldown reduced (210s → 270s) and missile anim timings trimmed for instant express volleys.
  • Upgrade Tree rebuilt: options for Electric Smoke, Medal of Honor (faster revive + passive move speed near knocked allies), and new Echo Class ECM payload that stuns enemy ults.

Verdict: Bangalore shifts from lane-clear to breach/EMP support; Caustic rewrites delay & zoning play with lethal, utility-rich gas.

Weapon Balance: Nerfs, Buff Tweaks & Meta Shifts

Ranked Overhaul: Drop Zones, Auras & Challenger System

  • Drop Zones replace Jumpmaster: Fair start for every squad—pre‑match POI ping and same-time deploy; Hot Zones removed, loot evenly distributed.
  • New Ranked Auras: Cosmetic badges showing your tier in lobby, skydive, revives, and podium accent. Every ranked-eligible player now gets the Ascension Crest aura post-launch.
  • RP & Scoring Rebalance:
    • Entry cost added to Bronze (10 RP) and slight Gold/Plat increases.
    • Kill Points reduced across placements.
    • Challenger Bonus system buffed for tier-gap kills (+15% to +50% RP).
    • Placement points increased to reward consistent mid‑placement presence.
    • Heat Shields disabled in Ranked.

Map & Mixtape Rotation: Visibility & Flow Upgrades

  • E‑District gets a full daytime makeover—cleaner lighting, decluttered POIs, added doorways, and a new Lotus rotation line for smoother mid-game flow.
  • Mixtape (Aug 5–Sept 15) brings back Thunderdome TDM, Gun Run, Control modes, and Faction vs. Skull, etc., while Wildcard slots into tri/battle royale slots as a limited-time trial.

System & QoL Overhaul

  • Accolades System: Match-based achievements (e.g. slide‑kills, double team revives) are now tracked in-match and rewarded with up to 2200XP daily. Post-match summary highlights your top three.
  • Challenges Upgrade: Most can be completed in any mode with mode‑based scaling (e.g. 2× damage credit in Ranked).
  • Controller Class Buff: Wattson-style zone utilities improved—Zone Overcharge now regenerates shields in zone (damage stops this for 6s); scanning ring consoles yields “custom evac” towers for your team.
  • UI Improvements: New one-screen reward summary shows how items were earned, reducing pop-up clutter.
  • Wallhack Report Option returned based on community feedback for better anti-cheat accountability.
  • Firing range & VFX fixes: cleaned up visuals, audio, and replication errors for smoother gadget behavior.
