In this article, we’ll break down all the LP changes to the new rank system in Apex Legends’ upcoming season 18.
Respawn introduced Apex Legends rank mode in Season 2. For the players who wanted to experience the competitive aspect of Apex Legends, the rank mode was the best way to go.
Since Apex Legends received rank mode, it has gone through many changes to provide players with the best experience. However, due to new players’ incoming and continuous meta changes, the slight adjustments don’t work anymore.
As a result, Respawn thought it would be best to completely rework the rank system. So in Season 17, Apex Legends introduced hidden MMR and bonus systems instead of a flat RP system.
Although the changes looked good on paper, they didn’t work out as planned. Consequently, a massive disparity in rank distribution occurred, and an unprecedented number of players reached Master by exploiting the rank system.
So, after listening to all the complaints from pro and casual players, Respawn decided to make many changes to the Season 18 ranked system.

LP Adjustment Explained
The official LP changes in the patch notes may have confused many players. So, we’ll try to simplify and tell you where to focus.
In Season 17, the entry cost for any player, regardless of rank, was set to -35. Therefore, your LP would decrease by 35 if you entered a ranked game and placed between 14th and 20th.
From now on, the LP gain and entry cost will work differently for players below and above the Diamond rank. The new entry cost has been set to -50 for all players before Diamond ranks. After the Diamond rank, the entry cost has been set to -75.
Similar to the previous season, the entry cost mitigation will start after they enter 13th place. However, players won’t get to a positive LP before reaching the 8th placement, which was previously the 10th placement in Season 17.
There’s also been a huge LP gain change in Season 18 compared to the previous season. However, the LP gain after the 8th placement is equal for all ranked players. So, players can get from 10 to up to 150 points from 8th to 1st place.
