Ever since VALORANT launched in June, left-handed players have been constantly asking Riot Games to add an option to change players’ view models in-game.

As 10% of the world’s population is left-handed, there are a lot of players that play VALORANT who are left-handed. Consequently, these players feel like a left-handed view model for the game would be a great quality of life improvement for the game.

Furthermore, some of the professional VALORANT players are in fact left-handed. And many have spoken out about how a left-handed view model for the game would be great for the competitive integrity of this title.

Riot Games on the left-handed view model:

Steven Eldredge who is the Senior Producer at Riot Games assured players that they are currently testing what a left-handed view model would look like in the game. Even though it may seem like such an easy fix, there are a lot of nuisances that need to be validated before Riot can push out an update.

We’re currently in the process of validating how this would work from not just a technical side but from a competitive and artistic front as well. While this may seem like a small technical challenge, we want to make sure this is done right for players. To do this we need to validate a couple of different things“, Steven Eldredge, Senior Producer on the left-hand view model.

While the addition of a left-hand view model sounds good, Riot Games still have to perform a lot of testing to see whether or not it affects any part of the competitive integrity of the game. And at the same time, cosmetics also require a lot of testing to see if those skins are looking just as good as their right-handed counterpart.

The second aspect we need to consider is how this might impact the competitive integrity of the game. We want to ensure that there are no advantages or disadvantages to playing with a left handed view model and that we maintain a fair competitive playing field. We want to make sure that left hand view isn’t the new meta or that players with this preference aren’t nerfed“, Steven Eldredge, Senior Producer on the competitive integrity.

Unfortunately, there is still no confirmed date on when Riot will enable this feature for left-handed players. Currently, it is something that is definitely on their radar.
