1047 Games has announced a major change for Empulse and Splitgate: Arena Reloaded. The studio is ending active development on both shooters and shutting down their dedicated servers, but players will still be able to continue playing through a new peer-to-peer system.

In Brief: 1047 Games and Splitgate Timeline:

  • May 22, 2025: Splitgate 2 entered open beta.
  • June 6, 2025: Splitgate 2 officially launched.
  • August 29, 2025: The original Splitgate moved from dedicated servers to peer-to-peer hosting.
  • December 17, 2025: Splitgate 2 was rebuilt and relaunched as Splitgate: Arena Reloaded.
  • June 24, 2026: Empulse launched in Early Access on Steam.
  • August 26, 2026: 1047 Games announced it was ending active development on both current shooters.
  • September 3, 2026: Dedicated servers and matchmaking will shut down, with both games moving to peer-to-peer hosting.

Empulse and Splitgate: Arena Reloaded Dedicated Servers Are Shutting Down

1047 Games says neither Empulse nor Splitgate: Arena Reloaded is generating enough revenue to cover the ongoing cost of dedicated servers. The company continued funding the infrastructure while giving both games additional time to grow, but says doing so is no longer sustainable.

Instead of completely shutting the games down, 1047 Games has reworked both titles to support peer-to-peer hosting.

Starting September 3, dedicated servers and traditional matchmaking will be disabled. Players will instead be able to host matches and discover available games using a server browser.

The approach follows what 1047 Games did with the original Splitgate in August 2025. Its dedicated servers were retired and replaced with peer-to-peer support, allowing the game to remain playable, including on consoles.

Empulse will receive one final content update as part of the transition. 1047 Games confirmed that the movement shooter will get one new map, while its price will also be reduced across all regions. This will serve as the final version of Empulse.

Active development on Splitgate: Arena Reloaded will also end as part of the September 3 transition.

The announcement also signals a significant change for 1047 Games itself. After roughly a decade focused on live-service shooters, the studio says its next project could look very different from what players have come to expect.

Co-founders Ian Proulx and Nicholas Bagamian thanked the more than 25 million players who have played 1047 Games titles over the past decade, while confirming that lessons from Splitgate, Arena Reloaded, and Empulse will influence whatever the studio builds next.
