Xbox has finally revealed the first official multiplayer gameplay trailer for Gears of War: E-Day, offering a closer look at its expanded Horde experience, classic competitive modes, and surprisingly player-friendly cosmetic system.
The Coalition is moving away from the traditional battle pass model. Instead, almost every cosmetic reward will be obtainable simply by playing the game and completing challenges, events and achievements.
In brief:
- Gears of War: E-Day introduces a new 12-player Horde Siege PvE mode.
- Traditional 4v4 Versus multiplayer returns with modernized movement and controls.
- There will be no battle pass, with almost all cosmetics unlockable through gameplay.
- Multiplayer beta early access begins on August 6 for pre-orders and eligible Game Pass subscribers.
The newly released trailer confirms that Horde Siege will significantly expand the franchiseโs signature cooperative survival mode. Twelve players, divided into three four-player squads, will fight across larger maps, complete shared objectives and take on powerful world bosses.
Players will have access to different classes, including Assault, Marksman, Medic and Breacher. Successful matches will provide rewards, customization options and loadout improvements for future battles.

Versus also returns with familiar 4v4 modes set across new maps surrounding the war-torn city of Kalona. The combat retains Gearsโ cover-based identity while introducing smoother movement options such as jumping, sliding, and vaulting.
Perhaps the most encouraging announcement is that Gears of War: E-Day will not feature a battle pass.
Almost all seasonal cosmetics will instead be earned by completing in-game challenges, participating in events, and unlocking achievements. The cosmetics shown include Deathโs Rendezvous Marcus, Exfil Dom and several Prototype Lancer weapon skins.
A smaller selection of premium or charity-related items will still be sold separately. This includes special collaborations such as the Metallica cosmetic collection shown during the multiplayer presentation.
The multiplayer Open Beta begins on August 6, with early access available through pre-orders, Game Pass Ultimate, and PC Game Pass. Gears of War: E-Day launches on October 6, 2026, for Xbox Series X|S and PC.
