The draw show for Worlds 2022 happened just an hour earlier, as we now know which teams will face each other in the tournament.
With the LCS Championship Finals wrapping up earlier today, the Worlds 2022 Draw Show followed afterwards. The draws were first done for the Play-ins groups, and then the Groups Stage draw was done. All eyes were on the group draw, anticipating the tournament coming later this month. So let’s discuss the draw show results for the Play-ins and Groups Stages.
Play-in Groups after Worlds 2022 Draw
As mentioned earlier, the draw show started with the Play-ins groups first. Twelve teams were set to appear in the Play-ins. These teams were divided into three pools for four teams. The pools were as follows:
- Pool 1: Royal Never Give Up (LPL #4), DRX (LCK #4) , Fnatic (LEC #3), Beyond Gaming (PCS #2)
- Pool 2: MAD Lions (LEC #4), Evil Geniuses (LCS #3), Saigon Buffalo (VCS #2), DetonatioN FocusMe (LJL #1)
- Pool 3: LOUD (CBLOL #1), Istanbul Wildcats (TCL #1), Chiefs Esports Club (LCO #1), Isurus (LLA #1)
Two teams from each pool were put into one group, creating two groups of six. Hence, the groups ended up as follows:
Group A:
- Fnatic
- Beyond Gaming
- DetonatioN FocusMe
- Evil Geniuses
- LOUD
- Chiefs Esports Club
Group B:
- DRX
- Royal Never Give Up
- Saigon Buffalo
- MAD Lions
- Istanbul Wildcats
- Isurus
MAD Lions and Fnatic slotted into two different groups because of the group placement rules because both teams are from the same region. With twelve teams being back into Play-ins, the format has changed from the past two Worlds tournaments. With six teams in each group, the play-ins are fun to watch in Worlds 2022.
Groups Stage Draw Results for Worlds 2022
The Groups stage also had an exciting draw. As per usual, the Worlds Groups Stage format has four teams in each group, and there are four groups for this tournament stage. The teams were divided into three pools of three teams. They are as follows:
- Pool 1: JD Gaming (LPL #1), Gen.G (LCK #1) , Rogue (LEC #1), Cloud9 (LCS #1)
- Pool 2: Top Esports (LPL #2), T1 (LCK #2), G2 Esports (LEC #2), CTBC Flying Oyster (PCS #1)
- Pool 3: EDward Gaming (LPL #3), DAMWON KIA (LCK #3), 100 Thieves (LCS #2), GAM Esports (VCS #1)
The teams were sorted into four groups of three for now, and the four winners of the Play-ins will take four spots available, with one place from each group. They are as follows:
Group A:
- Cloud9
- T1
- EDward Gaming
Group B:
- JDG
- G2 Esports
- DAMWON KIA
Group C:
- Rogue
- Top Esports
- GAM Esports
Group D:
- Gen.G
- CTBC Flying Oysters
- 100 Thieves
Groups A, B, and C instantly look like formidable groups. Each group has some of the world’s best teams, and watching that unfold will be fun. On the other hand, Group D looks like the easiest group so far. One thing to note is that if DRX and RNG qualify for the play-ins, they can only go to Groups C and D.
Other than that, the groups look competitive for the most part. It will be a joy to watch Worlds 2022. For the schedule for Worlds 2022, keep your eye on the LoLEsports Website as they update the schedule very soon.
