WARDOGS developer BULKHEAD has admitted that speeding up Season 2 progression was a mistake, with some players already reaching endgame equipment just days into the season. The studio is now considering bringing Season 3 and some of its content forward to give players a better fresh start.
Season 2 launched on October 15 with new weapons, vehicles, rain effects, and balance changes. However, its faster progression has quickly undermined the climb that was supposed to follow the seasonal wipe.
In brief:
- BULKHEAD says faster Season 2 progression was the “wrong call.”
- Some players are already reaching Tier 4 armor and main battle tanks within days.
- The developers have ruled out another reset this weekend.
- Season 3 could arrive significantly earlier, with more details promised in next week’s developer vlog.
WARDOGS Season 2 Progression Made Endgame Gear Too Easy to Reach
In its October 17 announcement, BULKHEAD acknowledged that Season 2’s intended fresh start had fallen short.
The developers deliberately accelerated progression while trying to improve balance. That decision allowed some players to reach powerful equipment much sooner than intended.
“Some players are reaching end game gear like Tier 4 armour and MBTs within days, so the wipe never really landed,” the studio explained.
Because the game is built around gradually unlocking stronger equipment, this creates an obvious problem. The early climb becomes much shorter, and high-tier armor and heavy vehicles enter matches almost immediately.
BULKHEAD says it will address clear balance problems, while giving changes that have divided the community more time before deciding what to adjust.
BULKHEAD Considers Earlier Season 3 Instead of an Immediate Reset
Players currently working through Season 2 will get to continue their progress this weekend. BULKHEAD explicitly ruled out an immediate reset, saying it would be unfair to those already enjoying the climb.
Instead, the team is looking at “significantly bringing forward Season 3 and some of its content.”
So, that literally means a shorter Season 2 is being considered, although the announcement gives no revised release date or confirmed list of content arriving early. More details are expected in the developer vlog next week.
The studio framed the changes as part of its Early Access development process, thanking players for their feedback.
Season 2 Fixes Already Target Bonuses and Tank Exploits
BULKHEAD has also announced the removal of the Blue team’s bonus cash and XP, alongside driver progression fixes and a fix for an exploit granting premature tank access. Limited mode servers without power weapons or vehicles are planned, while affected exploiters face 24-hour bans and cash and XP resets.
Those adjustments follow a substantial content update featuring weapons such as the M14 and PP-19 Bizon, plus the T-72B3 main battle tank and Flakpanzer Gepard anti-air vehicle.
WARDOGS continues to draw a large audience despite the progression issues. SteamDB’s October 17 report showed more than 280,000 concurrent players, giving BULKHEAD plenty of players to win over as it works out the next season’s pace.
