After a very long and relentless journey, the VCT 2022 Istanbul is finally going to happen very soon. Here’s everything you need to know about VALORANT Championship 2022.

VCT is the VALORANT‘s most prestigious tournament. The best teams from all over the world go against each other in this tournament to earn the title VALORANT Champions. Teams have gone through never-ending battles to reach this pinnacle of VALORANT to take away the title from 15 other teams throughout the world.

This year’s VALORANT Championship will be held in Istanbul, Turkey, where hundreds of thousands of eyes will shine on one trophy and cheer for their favorite teams. Last year, the European eSports organization Acend won the VALORANT Championship title. It’ll be exciting to see which team gets to take the title this year.

VALORANT Championship 2022

Qualified Teams

Thousands of teams battled against each other in several regions to reach the VALORANT Championship stage. However, only 16 teams from 8 regions have advanced through regional Challengers events and Last Chance Qualifiers.

VCT 2022 Tournament Format

VALORANT Championship will follow a GSL format and a Double Elimination Bracket. All matches will be best of 3, except for the lower and grand finals, which will follow best of 5 formats.

What is GSL Format?

If you don’t know what the GSL format means, there will be 4 randomly selected teams within 4 groups. 2 sets of opening matches will be held within the groups. The two winning teams from each group will advance to the next stage within the group. The undisputed seed from the group will automatically advance to the next stage.

Here are the respective teams within the groups:

  • Group A – Paper Rex, Edward Gaming, Leviatán, Team Liquid
  • Group B – Optic Gaming, BOOM Esports, ZETA DIVISION, LOUD
  • Group C – FPX, KRÜ Esports, XSET, XERXIA
  • Group D – DRX, FURIA Esports, FNATIC, 100Thieves

However, the losing teams will fight against each other in the lower bracket within the groups. The winner from the losers bracket will go to the next stage, where the team will fight against the stage two losing team. The hard-fought winning team will also go to the next Playoffs stage along with the undisputed group seed.

Double Elimination Bracket

After that, the 8 seeds from 4 groups will be placed randomly in a double-elimination Playoffs bracket. However, teams from the same group will be placed on the opposite side of the brackets. Teams will fight against each other until a single team remains, who will be titled the VALORANT 2022 Champions.

VCT Tournament Schedule

The VALORANT Championship will start on August 31, 2022, and run until September 18, 2022. The Group stage will be held for 9 days: August 31 – September 8. The second stage of the Playoffs will start on September 9 and end on September 13.

The Lower Semifinal, Upper Final, and Lower Final teams will go against each other on September 16 and 17. And finally, on September 18, the long-awaited Grand Finals of the VALORANT Championship will be held, where two of the best teams in the world will go against each other in a best of 5 formats to snatch the title.

There will be break days/ dark days in between the continuous matches where teams will get to rest and practice.
