Following Bethesda’s official announcement, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma took to X to celebrate the reveal and congratulate the developers behind the long-awaited RPG.

In her statement on X, Sharma wrote:

SENTINEL is the next chapter of The Elder Scrolls. An incredible way for @BethesdaStudios to mark 40 years of building worlds that speak to millions of players across generations. Congratulations to the team, past and present.

Her statement confirms that Sentinel is the official subtitle of the next Elder Scrolls game, putting an end to speculation about what Bethesda would eventually call its Skyrim successor.

Interestingly, the name had already surfaced in reports before the announcement.

Sharma had also previously teased the game in August after seeing a live gameplay demonstration. At the time, she praised its scale and story while seemingly hinting at its eight-letter subtitle.

Bethesda Finally Reveals The Elder Scrolls 6 Name After Eight Years

The official name reveal took place during a special video celebrating 40 years of Bethesda Game Studios.

Near the end of the presentation, Bethesda executive producer Todd Howard reflected on the studio’s history and the teams responsible for its biggest games.

Howard acknowledged that fans have been asking about The Elder Scrolls 6 for years and said the anniversary felt like the perfect opportunity to finally reveal its name.

The video then unveiled the official logo for The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel.

Bethesda also shared the announcement through its official X account, thanking players for 40 years of memories while confirming that development is continuing.

However, the studio warned that it would still be some time before it was ready to reveal additional details.

It’s a relatively small announcement considering how long fans have been waiting, but finally getting an official name is a welcome update for a game that has largely remained a mystery since 2018.

The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel Teaser Points to Hammerfell

The newly revealed subtitle also provides another clue about where the next Elder Scrolls adventure could take place.

Sentinel is an important city in Hammerfell, a province of Tamriel known as the homeland of the Redguards.

The official name reveal includes a mysterious passage attributed to Yazar, a Moth Priest serving High Queen Iradne of Hammerfell in 4E 206.

The passage references visions of the future, an undone victory, and sands scattered by fate.

The explicit mention of Hammerfell strengthens the connection between the game’s title and its rumored setting.

Previous reports had already suggested that The Elder Scrolls 6 would take place in Hammerfell, potentially featuring areas around the Iliac Bay.

Bethesda’s announcement now points directly toward the region, although the developer hasn’t shown the game’s world or explained how much of Hammerfell players will be able to explore.

The teaser also raises some interesting questions about the Elder Scrolls themselves and whether the mysterious artifacts will have a more central role in the upcoming story.

For now, the exact storyline and gameplay features remain under wraps.

When Will The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel Release?

Unfortunately, Bethesda has not announced a release date or release window for The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel.

The game was originally revealed during Bethesda’s E3 2018 presentation, meaning fans have already been waiting more than eight years for the next major installment.

Bethesda previously confirmed that The Elder Scrolls VI had become its primary development focus, with the majority of the studio working on the project.

However, the November 3 announcement focused entirely on the title and setting tease rather than gameplay, platforms, or launch plans.

For now, fans will have to wait for Bethesda’s next update to learn more about what Sentinel has in store.

Still, after years of rumors and speculation, The Elder Scrolls VI finally has an official name. And with Hammerfell seemingly taking center stage, the next journey through Tamriel is starting to take shape.
