SIX INVITATIONAL 2021: the most prominent tournament of Rainbow Six Siege is on the horizon. Despite the COVID-19, SI’21 will go as planned, according to Ubisoft’s latest announcement.
When & Where is the Six Invitational 2021 taking place?
The fifth edition of the World Championship of Rainbow Six Siege will be held in Paris, France, from February 9th to 21st, 2021. It’s a festival for all the Siege fans, as they come together to celebrate all things about Rainbow Six Siege.
The Six Invitational 2021 will gather 20 teams across the 4 main regions of the Rainbow Six Esports circuit, competing offline. However, there won’t be any in-person audience due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and Ubisoft will follow strict sanitary measures, in line with guidelines from health organizations and local authorities.
PARTICIPATING TEAMS
COMPETITIVE FORMAT
All teams will start competing in the Group Stage where they will be dispatched in 2 groups of 10 teams. In total, 90 matches will be played between the four regions throughout the Group Stage.
At the end of the Group Stage, the 8 best teams from each group will qualify for the Playoffs. More details below:
Group Stage (February 9 – 14)
The 20 teams are dispatched in 2 groups of 10 teams.
- The top 4 teams of the Global Standings (BDS, Cloud9, TSM, Giants Gaming) were cross-seeded in Group A & B
- Based on the Global standings as well, a random draw was made in this specific order to dispatch the 16 other teams in Group A and B:
- Top 5-8
- Top 8-16
- 4 qualifiers
Each team will play 9 games. The 8 best teams of each group, 16 teams in total, will advance to the playoffs, while the 2 bottom teams will be eliminated. Given the large number of matches and the number of teams advancing to the Playoffs, the Group Stage will consist of a Best-of-one single round robin.
Playoffs (February 17– 21)
This phase will consist of a double elimination bracket. All Playoffs matches will be played in best-of-three. Following the Group Stage, the top 4 teams of Group A and B will battle it out in the upper bracket, while the teams ranked between the 5th and 8th positions in each group will fall into the lower bracket.
The Grand Final will consist of a best-of-five match with a map advantage to the upper bracket team and unlimited overtime.
Prizepool
Just like the previous year, The Six Invitational 2021 prize pool will be capped at $3 million US dollars. 30% of all revenue from the Road to S.I. 2021 Battle Pass will directly contribute to the prize pool of the competition, and any amount above the 3-million-dollar cap will be redistributed to support the Rainbow Six Esports circuit for the 2021 season.
2021 SIX INVITATIONAL SHOWMATCH
Some of the biggest content creators in the Rainbow Six Siege community will be competing in the 2021 Showmatch for a charity prize of $50,000 USD.
