The quest “Shadowed Prayers” tasks you with unveiling the would-be assassin amidst a sea of devoted worshipers, ensuring the sovereign’s safety and the realm’s stability.

How to Finish Shadowed Prayers in Dragon’s Dogma 2
Here’s a step-by-step guide for completing the Shadowed Prayers quest in Dragon’s Dogma 2:
Step 1: Speak to Ser Menella
Your journey begins with a summons from Ser Menella, a stalwart soldier sworn to protect the Empress. You need to seek her out at the Flamebearer Palace, located in the vibrant city of Bakbattahl, after completing the “Nation of Lambent Flame” main quest.
She’ll inform you of an assassination attempt on Empress Nadinia and request your aid in apprehending the culprit before they strike again.
Step 2: Prepare for the Quest
Before you start the quest, I will suggest that you rest at the nearby inn and create a save point. You need to do that because if you fail to apprehend the assassin correctly, then you can reload your progress once again.
Step 3: Attend the Morning Prayer
Now, you need to return to the palace entrance in the morning. Menella and the Empress will be present to do their prayer ritual. During the ritual, you need to find the would-be assassin among the crowd.
Step 4: Identify the Assassin
According to Menella’s description, the assassin has hair tied back and have tattoos on their arms. You need to scan the crowd carefully, looking for the individuals matching this description.
Step 5: Apprehend the Culprit
Once you have identified the assassin, act swiftly and decisively. Use the “Hail” (◯) command to apprehend them, slamming them to the ground and foiling their nefarious plot. If you fail to do that, then reload your inn save and try again.
Rewards and Consequences
Upon successfully apprehending the assassin, you will be ushered into the Empress’s presence, where she will bestow upon you a generous reward:
- 3500 XP,
- 18,000 G, and
- 5 Jaspers.
However, should you fail to stop the assassin in time, the Empress will be slain, forever altering the course of your journey and the fate of Bakbattahl.
