Riot has shared an important update for third-party developers and stat site builders just as League Classic goes live. The developer relations team confirmed that League Classic match history data will not be exposed through the Riot API, and the studio is asking the community to keep that data out of trackers entirely.

In Brief

  • League Classic match history will not be available through the Riot API
  • Riot is asking developers not to aggregate or display League Classic data in any form
  • The Tournament API will support League Classic as a valid map type
  • Community-run League Classic tournaments are still fully possible

The reasoning comes down to preserving the spirit of the mode. League Classic is built around Season 3 era gameplay, back when there were no opgg overlays feeding you a win rate before champion select even ended, no live rank trackers, and no pressure to optimize every single game. Riot clearly wants that feeling back, and the fastest way to lose it would be for the whole meta to get solved by data sites within a week of launch.

So the request is straightforward. Riot has asked that League Classic data not be aggregated or displayed to users in any form. So that covers match history lookups, champion tier lists, build path stats, and anything else that would turn Classic into another spreadsheet to study before you queue up.

If you regularly check your profile after a rough game, that habit is not carrying over to Classic. Third-party sites that rely on the Riot API simply will not have access to the endpoints they would need. Any developer thinking about scraping around the restriction should also read the tone of the announcement carefully, since Riot framed this as a community ask rather than a technical oversight.

Wins, losses, and questionable Teemo picks stay between you and the people in your lobby.

The one big exception is competitive play. Riot confirmed that League Classic will be supported as a valid map type in the Tournament API, which means organizers can create and manage community-led Classic tournaments without any workarounds. That keeps the door open for grassroots events, creator-run cups, and nostalgia-themed brackets while still keeping ranked style data out of public trackers.

League Classic launched on July 29 with Patch 26.15, bringing back old runes, masteries, retired items, and a roster of 60 champions with many pre-rework kits. Taking match history off the table fits that same philosophy. Riot is trying to recreate not just how League played in 2013, but how it felt to play it, and part of that was queuing up without a permanent record following you around.
