Resident Evil 4 Remake: Ending Explained

Get the explanation of what the ending beholds in Resident Evil 4 Remake.

Ah, Resident Evil 4, the game that taught us that nothing is scarier than a cult of crazy Spanish villagers. It’s been over 15 years since its release, but the game still manages to hold up to this day. Capcom recently released a remake of the game, and fans, like me, have gladly accepted what they have offered.

But let’s be real here. Nobody actually plays Resident Evil games for the story. It’s all about the gameplay, the scares, and the thrill of taking down hordes of undead monstrosities. However, if you’re one of those people who actually care about the plot (I won’t judge), then you might be wondering how the remake’s story ends. Well, buckle up, and let’s dive into the ending of Resident Evil 4 Remake.

Adios to Saddler, Once Again

Saddler is about to mutate to his Final Form

In the end, Leon Kennedy and Ashley Graham, the president’s daughter, finally manage to escape the clutches of the sinister cult, Los Illuminados. But not before a final boss fight with none other than Osmund Saddler, the leader of the cult.

Saddler is a tough opponent, but Leon manages to defeat him with the help of Ada Wong. However, just when you think it’s all over, Saddler mutates into a giant monster, and the real final battle begins. After a grueling fight, Leon emerges victorious once again.

However, the next acts are quite different than the original ones. In this Remake, Ada tries to convince Leon to join her and offers him a ride on her helicopter, but he declines. She then gives him the keys to her jetski before taking the Las Plagas sample, which is her real objective. Leon and Ashley use the jetski to escape, and Ada watches them reach their destination from her helicopter.

A Mysterious Figure Appears

Now, things get interesting a bit more. There’s also an epilogue that gives us a glimpse into what happens after the main story ends. After Leon and Ashley escape, and head back to the United States, Ada at that time receives a call from an unknown person. And this guy is none other than the infamous villain of the RE series, Albert Wesker.

Wesker then reveals his plan to use Las Plagas and the T-Virus to kill billions of people as part of his Uroboros project. Ada gets a bit shock by this and hangs up on him and sets her mind to fly towards a new destination. While Ada’s betrayal of Wesker was not shown in the original game, the remake depicts the scene before the end credits.

What Happens Later?

After several years of the events of Resident Evil 4, another famous protagonist, Chris Redfield, shows up. Being a member of BSAA, a special forces unit dedicated to fighting bioterrorism, Chris is sent to investigate a bio-organic weapon (BOW) being sold in Africa. There are multiple reports that a deadly outbreak has occurred by the Uroboros virus.

As Chris and Sheva fight their way through hordes of infected villagers and mutated creatures, they discover that Wesker himself created the Uroboros virus. Even though it’s quite unclear, it can be assumed that Wesker somehow managed to get his hands on another Las Plagas sample and developed a mutant out of it, which is the main cause of this outbreak.
