Riot just revealed some massive changes for both Rakan & Lillia.

With Preseason 2023 right around the corner, Riot is making some last-minute changes, including the Rakan & Lillia range adjustments.

Both Rakan & Lillia, ever since their release, have been classified as range champions. Despite being ranged champions, they had only 300 and 325 attack ranges, respectively, making them two of the lowest-range ranged champions in the game. Also, their playstyle is mostly melee-orientated, making their raged champion status detrimental in terms of item builds and runes.

So, Riot games this preseason is planning some quality-of-life changes for both the champions. Rakan & Lillia will now be classified as melee champions, which will help a great deal with their build path and rune choices.

Riot August, the lead champion designer for League of Legends, recently announced the changes on his Twitter page.

What are the changes?

Here are all the Rakan & Lillia changes,

Rakan Changes

  • Rakan is now classified as a melee champion instead of a ranged champion.

Lillia changes

  • Lillia is now classified as a melee champion instead of a ranged champion.
  • Base health was reduced from 625 to 605.
  • Health growth increased from 104 to 105.

What do these changes imply?

At first glance, these changes seem pretty trivial, but the changes are quite significant.

First, the Rakan changes will allow him to execute minions below 50% instead of 30% with the Relic Shield support item, which is a good change for support Rakan. He will also be able to stack Conqueror much faster and use Titanic Hydra effectively.

Lillia will be affected the most by the changes. Lillia will now be able to get two Conqueror stacks per auto attack, and she will also heal more from the rune, making Conqueror an excellent option for her. In addition, demonic Embrace did less damage for ranged champions; Lillia, now a melee champion, will do more damage with the item.

As for Lillia’s Base Health nerf, it should only affect her early game as the Health growth increase buff will make up for the changes in the mid-game.

When will the changes arrive?

The Rakan & Lillia range adjustments are currently out on PBE (Public Beta Environment) servers for testing. It will come out on League of Legends live servers on patch 12.22, released on Wednesday, Nov 16, 2022.
