Buying a PS5 Pro in Japan now comes with an extra hurdle for players using Sony’s latest purchase application campaign. As the console faces repeated sellouts, Sony has opened applications that require an established account with at least 60 hours of gameplay. A lottery will decide who can buy one if demand exceeds available stock.

PS5 Pro Purchase Applications Require 60 Hours of Gameplay
According to new reports, applicants must have logged at least 60 hours of gameplay between September 27, 2024, and September 27, 2026, at 11:59 PM. Time played on PS4, PS5, or both consoles counts toward that total, provided it was recorded while signed in with the account used to apply.
The threshold is 60 hours or more, so players who have reached exactly 60 hours qualify on that requirement. Because the qualifying period has already ended, additional gameplay now will not help an account meet the cutoff.
Applicants also need a Sony account registered in Japan that uses PlayStation’s online services, with its sign-in ID unified with My Sony ID.
PS5 Pro Lottery Depends on Demand Exceeding Stock
Applications remain open until October 7 at 11:59 PM Japan time. Famitsu reports that results are scheduled to be announced progressively from around October 26.
The lottery is conditional, and it will be used if Sony receives more applications than the number of consoles available for this sale. Meeting the account requirements therefore does not guarantee a purchase.
As of writing, the deliveries of these consoles are planned for early to mid-November. So, for eligible players who are struggling to find stock, the campaign offers another opportunity to buy the console, though getting one may still come down to the draw.
