Keep reading to learn of all the possible endings in Pikmin 4.
The surprise revival of Nintendo’s Pikmin franchise (that is, if we’re not considering the spin-offs) had fans brimming with excitement. In addition to a bright and colorful world, intricate puzzles, and many Pikmin companions, the new sequel also offers abundant exploration opportunities and an extended storyline.
The whole premise of Pikmin 4 is centered around rescuing Captain Olimar and Captain Shepherd’s rescue team as their ships crash land on planet PNF-404. While searching for the castaways, you will encounter Captain Shepherd’s pet dog, Oatchi, and the tiny Pikmin population, who will accompany you and aid your search in several ways.
As the story progresses, you learn that Olimar’s SOS signal has attracted plenty of treasure hunters across the galaxy, and they all catch a mysterious disease that causes people to grow leaves on their bodies and become Leafling creatures. From then on, your mission evolves into both rescuing the castaways and finding a cure for everyone affected.

The story brings in many twists and turns along the way, with you stumbling upon various characters who aid your cause in one way or the other. As such, you will encounter countless challenges that will shape the course of your journey.
That’s right, Pikmin 4 does have multiple endings. To ensure you don’t miss out on the complete story Pikmin 4 is trying to tell, we have explained all the endings in the game, along with how to get the true ending.
All Main Story Endings in Pikmin 4
Players can get two potential endings while completing Pikmin 4’s main storyline.
Pikmin 4: Normal Ending – Rescue Olimar
Obtaining the normal ending in Pikmin 4 will require no additional effort on your part. To unlock this ending, you just have to follow the natural course of the story and complete all the main missions in the game.
As you might have guessed, the normal ending focuses on completing the main objective of the game – to rescue Olimar and the castaways and cure them. This will involve getting to the root of the problem and defeating the Red Leafling during the Dandori Battle “Leafy Showdown.”
Once you’ve defeated the Red Leafling and administered the cure, you will learn that you had been fighting none other than Captain Olimar himself this whole time.
After a hearty reunion with others, Olimar, Shepherd, Oatchi, and the other astronauts can be seen departing for home – and the credits begin to roll.
Pikmin 4: True Ending – Cure Oatchi
During the credits, we get to see Olimar’s partner, Louie, riding off somewhere with his own space dog. After the credits stop rolling, the scene cuts to inside the spaceship, with Oatchi feeling sick. This forces the crew to turn around their ship and return to planet PNF-404 – thus opening up the Cure Oatchi main quest.
As it turns out, the old vaccine doesn’t work on Oatchi. Moreover, you also learn that Moss is infected with the same disease and is not responding to the medicine either. So now, you must embark on another mission to gather the necessary ingredients to develop a new cure.
If you successfully collect 1100 Sparklium, you will gain access to a new explorable area called the Giant’s Hearth. During your exploration, you will find new castaways to rescue and more treasures to collect.
As you progress through the new questline, you will eventually discover a new area called the Primordial Thicket. Here, you will encounter Louie and his dog, who has somehow grown into an Ancient Sirehound.
Yonny reveals that you need a sample of the Ancient Sirehound’s DNA to complete the cure. However, since Louie refuses to cooperate, you are forced to fight him and his giant dog in the Cavern for the King cave.
After a really tough battle, you can collect a DNA sample from the dog’s collar and cure Oatchi. Sadly, even the new cure doesn’t work on the incurable Moss.
As a result, Olimar makes the very tough decision of leaving her behind on her home planet, where she belongs. The final scene shows the team flying off in their ships and Moss running off with the Pikmin and now-tamed Sirehound.
All Olimar’s Shipwreck Tale Endings
Olimar’s Shipwreck Tale, which is a game mode depicting Olimar’s shipwreck from his own perspective, has two potential endings. You can unlock Olimar’s Shipwreck Tale by completing the main story of Pikmin 4 and speaking to Olimar.
However, remember that it serves as a prologue sequence to the main events of Pikmin 4, so the endings don’t affect the main story in any way.
Olimar’s Shipwreck Tale: Bad Ending
After Olimar’s initial shipwreck on planet PNF-404, he is determined to find all 30 missing parts of his S.S. Dolphin ship within 15 days and fly back home before his life support system gives out.
If players cannot find all the missing parts within this allotted time, they will be forced to fly an incomplete ship, resulting in a crash. The end scene depicts Olimar’s ship plummeting to the ground while attempting to leave the planet.
Olimar’s Shipwreck Tale: Normal Ending
As you might have guessed already, even the normal or “better” ending results in Olimar being unable to make it out of PNF-404. So, you will only see slight changes in the normal ending of Olimar’s Shipwreck Tale.
You can get the normal ending in Olimar’s Shipwreck Tale by finding all the missing components of the S. S. Dolphin within the allotted time. Once you recover all the parts and repair your ship, it will be ready for flying.
In the ending scene, Olimar can be seen successfully taking off with his new pet dog, Moss. However, she soon starts feeling sick, so Olimar decides to turn back the ship for her. Sadly, his life support system fails, causing him to crash his ship again – thus paving the way for the main events of Pikmin 4.
