The worldwide hit game from Pocket Pair has lost 97% of its peak player count on Steam.

Palworld took the world by storm after its release in January 2024 and quickly broke a lot of records on Steam. The game sold more than ten million copies in the first week and registered more than 25 million players in just a month, making it one of the fastest-selling games in history. On Steam, Palworld became the second-ever game to hit more than 2.1 million concurrent players, only behind PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.

Just after two months of release, Palworld’s player count has dropped significantly. According to SteamDB, the game has lost 97% of its peak player count on Steam. Since March, Palworld has been losing thousands of players every day, when player counts were still averaging around 275,000 daily. As of this writing, the game hit a peak of 63,603 players, and around 30,000 players are currently playing on Steam.

The player count drop in Palword was expected as the initial buzz surrounding the game ended. Furthermore, Palworld is not a live-service game which is a pretty common genre in today’s gaming industry. This meant that players didn’t have to log into the game every single day to complete missions or daily challenges for some reward.

However, this does not mean that the developers at Pocket Pair have abandoned the game. Previously the studio released a roadmap of what they are planning to bring to the game during early access. These upcoming content will include PvP, Raid Bosses, a new Pal Arena, crossplay between Steam and Xbox players, new Pals, and more. In addition, Takuro Mizobe, the creator of Palworld, revealed that Pocket Pair is currently working on bringing the game to more platforms.
