Fix “Player is in a different version of Overwatch” Error in Overwatch 2

To get to the bottom of the “player is in a different version of Overwatch” error; first, we need to check if we are actually up to date with the game or not. To do that, go to the battle.net launcher. There in the overwatch section, you will find a gear beside the play button. Press on the gear and check for updates. Make sure your friend does the same. Then login to the game and try to invite each other. If this method does not work, you can use the workaround method.

Blizzard has said they are working on a fix for this problem. In the meantime, you can use a workaround method to invite your friend to the game. To invite a friend without using the invite option, we need to use the chat to type out the command. Here is how to do it:

  • After login into the game, open the chat option.
  • Write /invite [Battle.net Tag of your friend] on the chat.
  • Press enter to invite him to the group manually.

This method will bypass the normal way of inviting friends to join the group, thus avoiding the “player is in a different version of Overwatch” error.
