Onlyfans recently decided to prohibit the posting of sexually explicit and adult content starting in October.
The popular content subscription website rose to fame by allowing people to share content with their fans. Usually, this content is explicit in nature and popular internet personalities such as Amouranth, Blac Chyna, Cardi B, Mia Khalifa, Bella Thorne, Indiefoxx are also on this site.
The popularity of Onlyfans started during the pandemic as adult industry workers started sharing content on Onlyfans. Although Onlyfans is popular for its adult content there is other material as well. And Onlyfans has decided to focus on family-friendly content banning sexually explicit content.
The company launched its new Android and IOS app free of adult content. And the announcement to ban sexually explicit content comes just a few days after the release of this app.
Onlyfans’ Statement regarding the topic:
The main pressure apparently comes from banking partners and payment providers. In a recent statement shared with Input, the company announced this decision-
“Effective 1 October, 2021, OnlyFans will prohibit the posting of any content containing sexually-explicit conduct.”
The company is thinking about its long-term sustainability and apparently must evolve its content guidelines.
“In order to ensure the long-term sustainability of the platform, and to continue to host an inclusive community of creators and fans, we must evolve our content guidelines.”
According to Onlyfans, all forms of nudity are not banned. Users will still be able to post nude photos and content as long as it’s within the Onlyfans policy. There is no way to know what Onlyfans considers as sexually explicit content as they did not share much.
“Creators will continue to be allowed to post content containing nudity as long as it is consistent with our Acceptable Use Policy. These changes are to comply with the requests of our banking partners and payout providers. We will be sharing more details in the coming days, and we will actively support and guide our creators through this change in content guidelines.”
Many on social media are considering this as a betrayal made by Onlyfans towards a large part of its creators. Cheyenne MacDonald commented on this saying,
“Wait so you mean to tell me a company rode on the hard work of s*x workers to get established and then completely fucked them over once it got big? well, I never!”
