The introduction of the Vi-O-La motorcycle in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond revolutionises the way players explore the planet Viewros. What used to demand lengthy journeys across vast landscapes or sluggish movement through hallways can now be accomplished with flair and agility — gliding, accelerating, manoeuvring, and charging through foes or obstacles.

Unlocking the bike marks a pivotal moment in your gameplay experience. With this new ability, your adventure through expansive deserts, historic ruins, and vast facilities transforms into a more dynamic and thrilling journey. This guide will lead you step-by-step on how to unlock Vi-O-La and maximise its potential for your gaming experience.

How to Unlock Vi-O-La

To unlock Vi-O-La, navigate through the initial parts of the game until you arrive at the area called Volt Forge. At Volt Forge, the bike awaits you on the top floor of Tower 1 — but don’t get too excited just yet, as riding it won’t be possible at first.

To get your bike up and running, be sure to grab the “Vi-O-La Suit” upgrade from the terminal located beneath the bike’s pedestal. After acquiring the suit, the bike is fully functional, and you can call it forth whenever the game permits.

The unlock usually occurs about a couple of hours into the game—just in time for Vi-O-La to become your primary means of getting around during much of the mid-game.

Vi-O-La: Riding, Combat & Exploration & How to Control It

Once unlocked, Vi-O-La gives you a lot of new traversal and combat options:

  • Fast travel across open terrain — ideal for crossing deserts like Sol Valley quickly.
  • Boost for speed — hold the boost button to accelerate and cover large distances faster.
  • Combat on the move — the bike can fire projectiles (up to 5 homing shots) to help take out airborne or distant enemies while riding.
  • Traversal of Volt Forge’s large bridges and towers — some areas in Volt Forge are only accessible by using Vi-O-La to cross long gaps or towers.

Basic Controls (Switch / Joy-Con)

  • Summon / Dismount: Press the “+” button.
  • Accelerate: Hold ZR / R.
  • Boost: Press B.
  • Fire projectiles: Press A (up to 5 homing projectiles).
  • Brake: Use ZL / L.
  • Radio / Music (with appropriate unlocks): Use D-Pad Up / Left / Right to play/skip tracks.

Note: You can only summon Vi-O-La in areas large enough to accommodate it — tight corridors or small rooms will not allow the motorcycle.

Unlocking Vi-O-La at Volt Forge is a game-changer for those seeking swift navigation through the expansive landscapes of Viewros. It enhances your ability to explore far-off regions and seamlessly integrates riding with combat, making it an essential upgrade for any adventurer. Upon acquiring the Vi-O-La Suit, your approach to navigation, combat, and exploration in Metroid Prime 4: Beyond undergoes a remarkable transformation.
