The Hood is finally stepping out of the leak cycle and into the actual game. A fresh look at Parker Robbins has surfaced ahead of the Season 9.5 update, and along with the artwork came the detail that plenty of players were waiting on. He is a Vanguard, and he is rated at 2-star difficulty.

The Hood Is a 2 Star Difficulty Vanguard

NetEase, like many other studios, uses the star system as a rough barrier to entry, and 2 stars puts The Hood in comfortable territory. He is not a Doctor Strange portal specialist, and he is not a Groot wall wizard. He sits closer to the pick-up and play end of the tank pool, which is a smart move for a character launching mid-season when the ranked ladder is already halfway cooked.

The Vanguard label is the more interesting half of it. Everything we have seen from Parker Robbins so far points to guns, a stolen cloak, and a lot of trickery. So, obviously, that is not the usual tank recipe. Marvel Rivals tanks generally hold space with barriers or bulk, and The Hood does not look like he wants to do either. He looks like he wants to be in your face while you argue with your team about which one of him is real.

The Hood’s Abilities

The datamined side of things has been fairly consistent for weeks now. Clone projections keep showing up in the files, along with mystical shielding tied to the cloak and some flavor of demonic transformation for his ultimate. Dual pistols with an overheat system instead of a traditional ammo count have also been mentioned repeatedly, which would give him a rhythm closer to a Duelist than a frontliner.

Put that together, and you get an aggressive, disruptive tank rather than a shield bot. Loki already owns the clone fantasy in this game, but he does it from the backline as a Strategist. Moving that same confusion tool onto the frontline is a completely different headache. Trying to burst down a Vanguard is hard enough without spending two seconds figuring out which model is the actual player.

None of this is confirmed yet, so treat it as leaks until the official kit breakdown lands. NetEase has flipped expectations before. Nobody had Deadpool pegged as a Vanguard either.

Season 9.5 Release Date

Season 9.5 is scheduled for August 7, 2026, closing out the first half of The Mystery of Thebes. Season 9 launched on July 10 with Jubilee as its opening hero, and The Hood was always positioned as the back-half arrival. Expect the full ability breakdown, Team Up assignments, and his launch cosmetics to drop in the days leading up to the update.

The Regenerative Shields mechanic introduced at the start of Season 9 is worth keeping in mind here. If The Hood does get shield health that ticks back up after avoiding damage for a few seconds, that pairs almost too neatly with a hit-and-run tank who does not want to stand still. It would explain why NetEase felt comfortable building a Vanguard who does not really block anything
