With the new opt-in option introduced by Riot, it will now be up to the players to decide whether they want to participate at the end of game chat or not.
League of Legends can either be a very fun or toxic experience depending on your teammates and opponents. Playing games after games with your friends is a great way to enjoy your free time. Or even playing alone can be fun if you like grinding solo-queue. But solo-queue brings out the worst in people, and the chat can be super toxic.
The best way to avoid toxicity was to just mute everyone. Most communications about the game can be expressed with pings anyway. So there is no need to keep chatting to see what people are typing. But until now, there was no way to mute post-game chat. And most of the time, people are most toxic in the post-game lobby.
But Riot is finally implementing an opt-in feature for end of game chat.
How to Opt-in for Post Game Chat
In patch 12.11, which is already live, players need to opt-in to chat in the post-game lobby. Opt-in chat means the chat option will be turned off by default on a post-game screen. However, you can turn it on and see messages from other players if you click on the chat box. So if you had a great game and want to watch the opponents fight among themselves, then it is easy to do so. But if you want to avoid the chat, you don’t need to do anything.
The reaction from the community has been welcoming so far. People are wondering why it took Riot so far to implement such a change. Though some a criticizing the opt-in function. They are saying that players who don’t want to see post-game chat should ‘Opt-out’ instead of players needing to ‘Opt-in’ after each game to chat.
But the process to opt-in is super easy with just a click on the chat box. Players need to click on the box to chat anyway. So it should not be a problem.
