Riot is introducing a new Gacha system named “The Sanctum”.

The Gacha system has been a part of the Gaming Industry for a while now. It’s a system that was originally designed for cashgrab Mobile games but now it has seeped through the cracks and has invaded the PC/Console gaming sphere. Today, many popular Free-to-play Games like Genshin Impact, Wuthering Waves, Zenless Zone Zero, and games of this nature all have their own Gacha system.

League of Legends being one of the biggest free-to-play games also introduced its own Gacha system back in 2023 with Dark Cosmic Erasure Jhin. Though unpopular among many players, it seems it was profitable enough for Riot to continue it to this day.

Despite backlash from the community, it seems Riot still plans to continue the Gacha system. Thus In the coming months, Riot plans to revamp their current model and introduce an improved Gacha system known as the Sanctum.

The Sanctum

The new Gacha System was announced recently along with the new skin tier named Exalted Skins. The only way to get these rare Exalted Skins is through The Sanctum.

The Sanctum works very similar to most modern Gacha mechanics. For the Sanctum, Riot will be introducing a new currency called Ancient Sparks. These will be available in the shop for 400 RP and will not expire.

Using one Ancient Spark players will be able to pull loot from a specific drop table. Each pull has a set chance of obtaining a reward. The higher the rarity of a loot is the lower the chances are. There are three tiers of rewards S, A, and B.

S-tier rewards have the lowest drop rate but are guaranteed within 80 pulls. A-tier has a little higher drop rate and has a 10% chance to drop a random A-tier cosmetic. In contrast, the B-tier has the highest drop rate.

TierDescriptionLootDrop Rate
S-Tier ContentHighest value loot within The Sanctum’s poolArcane Fractured Jinx Exalted skinBase drop rate is 0.5%, and will be guaranteed within 80 attempts, bringing the effective drop rate to 1.5%
A-Tier ContentVarious cosmetics including skins, rare new content, exclusive rewardsSelect skins, exclusive paragon chromas, exclusive bannerBase drop rate is 10%, and A-Tier content will be guaranteed within every 10 attempts
B-Tier ContentPrimarily Mythic Essence in varying denominations and some accessoriesMythic Essence (5/10/25/50/100), random icon, random emoteBase drop rate is 89.5%

Additionally, each drop will check whether or not you already own the item. So, players will not get any duplicates. If players have already received all S-Tier or A-Tier content and continue to pull rewards from that tier, a lump sum of Mythic Essence will be granted each time—more for S-Tier than for A-Tier.

Moreover, Exalted skins, like Mythic Variants, will not be added to the reroll pool, except Dark Cosmic Erasure Jhin In addition, Riot will also be revamping the Mythic Shop and it will arrive with the Sanctum.

Release Date

The Sanctum will arrive in League of Legends in Patch 14.24, which releases on Wednesday, December 11, 2024..
