Riot will be removing Honor Capsules and Orbs from the game with the new Honor changes.

The League of Legends player base has always been notorious for its toxicity, even compared to other online titles. Many players of the game fall victim to flaming, trolling, griefing, and harassment on a daily basis.

Thus to combat the toxicity, Riot introduced the Honor system. It allowed players can give commendations to their fellow teammates after the match concluded. The more a player gives out or receives these commendations, the higher their honor level rises. At higher honor levels, players are given free rewards such as capsules and orbs, which net players Hextech Keys, Emotes, and Icons. Achieving Honor level 5 even unlocked exclusive Honor Skins, offering an incentive to encourage positive behavior and reduce toxicity.

Recently, however, Riot announced changes to the Honor system, which includes the removal of Honor rewards, such as Honor capsules and orbs. After the Removal of Hextech Chests, this seems to be yet another controversial move by Riot and fans are not happy about it.

Upcoming Honor Changes & Removal of Honor Capsules

Riot announced quite a lot of Honor Changes and here’s a brief overview of them all.

  • Honor Levels will now be determined by Dynamic evaluation based on recent positive behavior rather than the number of games played without penalties.
  • Rewards & Entitlements will be based on your current Honor level.
  • Honor Checkpoints & Seasonal Resets are now gone.
  • You will now be notified when your Honor is sliding to the previous level.
  • Honor Penalties are Game-based; The amount of matches you must play to lift the penalty is viewable in your profile the same way Ranked Restrictions are today.
  • Any remaining Honor 5 tokens in loot will be converted into 1050 Orange Essence at the start of patch 25.06.
  • Honor Orbs and Capsules have been replaced with Battle Pass XP drops.
  • After 25.04, the first time you reach Honor 5 you will be permanently awarded the Three Honors Malzahar, Shen, and Akshan skins, alongside Grey Warwick and Medieval Twitch and their chromas.

Many of these changes are a step in the right direction. Giving out previous honor skins to Honor Level 5 players, no more seasonal honor resets, and better penalties for toxicity, are all great changes.

However, Riot is also removing many free rewards. Honor Orbs and Capsules are no longer obtainable, instead, Riot is giving Battle Pass XP to players. This is quite a big downgrade from the previous rewards, previously players were able to obtain Hextech Keys, Emotes, and Icons from the Capsules and now it’s just Battle Pass XP.

Hopefully, Riot will change the rewards for the Honor system because as it stands the is not much incentive for players to interact with the system.
