KRAFTON, Inc. is making waves with exciting updates on the next chapter of the PUBG: Battlegrounds franchise. Introducing PUBG: Black Budget, this highly anticipated extraction-shooter represents a daring transformation: exclusively first-person, intense PvPvE dynamics, and a focus on exploration rather than relentless combat. As we gear up for a closed alpha set to launch in December, let’s dive into what we know so far, the potential impact on the extraction-shooter genre, and the implications for the PUBG ecosystem.
New Details at a Glance
What is PUBG: Black Budget?
Black Budget is an immersive first-person extraction shooter designed specifically for PC players. Welcome to an island known as “Coli,” a captivating game world ensnared in a relentless time loop, where players must navigate the challenges posed by a mysterious supernatural force known as the Anomaly.
Players assume the role of a “Contractor” in a covert operation, codenamed SAPIENS. Their mission: infiltrate the research facility, locate cutting-edge technology, extract it, and survive the challenges ahead.
Gameplay & Mechanics
The match arena spans approximately 2.5 × 2.5 km, featuring diverse biomes, underground facilities, and intriguing points of interest. Each session spans approximately 30 minutes, blending exploration with high-stakes extraction. In the world of extraction shooters, the game is simple: you enter with your gear, aim to extract with valuable loot, but beware of your surroundings, since if you fall in battle, everything you brought is lost.
Join up to 45 players in each session, with squads consisting of up to 3 players. Engage in thrilling PvPvE encounters, where you face off against other Contractors and hostile entities in an exhilarating battle for survival. The challenge intensifies as players progress in level or invest more time within the loop. The anomaly zone contracts like a shifting “circle of doom,” infused with a unique thematic twist.
Outside of extraction runs: base building, crafting stations, character skill progression, three rival factions offering contracts, gear customisation, and so on.
Closed Alpha Details
- Two Alpha test windows: December 12–14 and December 19–21, on Steam, for PC in NA/Europe/Asia.
- Registration is open via Steam.
- KRAFTON has given the green light to stream gameplay during the alpha, so content will hit early.
