Although we are getting a new Prince of Persia game after over a decade, it’s not quite what you might have been expecting it to be. After all, the Prince is no longer the face of the new game. Instead, the beloved Prince will take a back seat in a supporting role.

The Lost Crown will be a 2.5D game where the player will be playing with the new protagonist, Sargon. He is part of the Elite soldier unit of the Achaemenid Empire Immortals, and his task is to save the Prince of Persia.

With this new approach and new protagonist, you can wonder if the story will follow the narrative from the previous games. So, is it necessary to play other Prince of Persia games first before playing the new one, Prince of Persia: Lost Crown? That’s what I will discuss in this article.

Is PoP: The Lost Crown a Standalone Game or a Sequel?

You might be wondering whether story knowledge of the previous PoP titles is required before jumping into The Lost Crown. Because, let’s face it, not many of us are willing to have to replay older titles just to understand the premise of the new PoP storyline.

To get right to the point- No, you don’t need to play other Prince of Persia games to understand the story in the Lost Crown. This game isn’t a continuation of the storyline of previous games.

This is a completely new standalone entry. In the previous games, you had to play as the Prince of Persia, but here, you’ll be playing as one of his soldiers. This doesn’t mean the popular mechanics like the wall running and controlling the sands of time aren’t there.

So, if you are a new player or an OG who wants to return to the world of sands of time, then there is no need to worry. You’ll have a new story and a new world to explore without needing any prior knowledge.
