In order to accommodate a larger map, Insomniac has also improved the web-swinging, the slowness of which was criticized in the original game, to make traversal less tedious.
Furthermore, there is also the inclusion of several slingshots around the city, rings that increase your new Web Wings’s speed, and of course, fast travel.
Web Swinging around New York City was a highlight of the previous game, and with the new improvements, it is even better in Spider-Man 2.
However, going to and from the same places, especially in a large sandbox map, can get boring. This is where fast travel comes to alleviate the tedium.
This guide is all about Fast Travel, how to unlock it, and how to use it.
How to Unlock Fast Travel
Unlike the first game, Spider-Man 2 does not have you unlock landmarks or stations to gain access to Fast Travel. Instead, it is tied to your completion of different districts on the map.
You’ll have the game’s open world to freely explore once you finish the game’s opening.
If you open the map, you’ll see that the map is segmented into different districts, such as Chinatown, Midtown, and Astoria, with its own progress bar.
You’ll also see that the progress bars have three tiers of completion for you to reach. Once you reach the 2nd tier for a district, you’ll be able to fast travel to any location within that district.
Furthermore, the activities you can complete to fill the progress bar will also show up on the left when you hover over a district. Each district has its own unique progress bar, and thus, their own unique activities to complete.
These include completing missions like Prowler Stashes, Photo Ops, FNSM Requests, as well as collectables like Spider-Bots, and Mysteriums, or even stopping random crimes.
How to Fast Travel
After you’ve reached the 2nd Tier of progress for a district, which is an icon of two skyscrapers with green arrows, you’ll be to fast travel to any location in that district. Simply over that district in the map, hold Triangle, and a short animation will take you there.
Fast Travel is nearly instantaneous and incredibly seamless. So seamless in fact, that if you were web swinging when you opened the map, the moment of your swing will carry over after you fast travel, where you will start swinging in the location you fast traveled to.
