Bethesda cannot stop releasing Skyrim and people can’t stop playing this RPG game. With Skyrim Anniversary Edition, the game offers some new additions as well as a fishing mechanic. The fishing mechanic is introduced with some new side-quests and hence rewards as well.
Furthermore, you can use the caught fish to make different potions, cook to use as food (very helpful in a survival run), and even mount them on your home to display as trophies. On the other hand, fishing in Skyrim is not as free as in other games. Meaning you cannot fish anywhere you want. But it is a welcome feature that adds a new sense of immersion to the already immersive RPG.

How to Fish in Skyrim
The Fish Add-On
Firstly, you have to download the Fish add-on from Creation Club. After that is done, you can go to any fishing spots, take the fishing rod, and start fishing. You can also buy them from the store.
Fishing can only be done from fishing spots. Equip the rod and interact with the fishing supplies basket to stock up then go ahead start the mini-game. When your rod starts to move don’t reel in. Have patience till you feel a strong pull. Continue as you want if there are ripples present in the water. Ripple spots indicate the presence of fish.
That is pretty much it when it comes to fishing. There is also a fishing questline to help you become a better angler in fishing. Alternately, you can also start your first fishing experience through that quest instead of randomly taking a rod from a fishing spot.
Till now there are only 6 existing types of fish that can be caught in Skyrim. Additionally, 20 new ones are available some of them are tied to specific areas. Such as Freshwater, Seawater, etc. Also, you can use mods to make this experience more immersive and fun than it already is. Or maybe add more fish and uses for them.

- Pogfish
- Carp
- Juvenile Mudcrab
- Angler Larvae
- Glassfish
- Goldfish
Fishing spots in Skyrim
Fishing spots can be found near river banks. They contain a fish basket so you can easily know if you stumble upon one. Additionally, you can buy fishing maps for 25G from shopkeepers at fishing places. Such as Riften and Whiterun.
Common fishing spots can be found near Ivarstead, to the east of Gerimund’s Hall and Riften Docks, and Riverwood.
Fishing Quests in Skyrim
To start this quest, head to the Fishery located to the west of Riften. Speak to Swims-In-Deep-Water, who will teach you about fishing. You will now see a character named Viriya. Talk to both of them to receive a quest each. When you log into your game, you will get the “Angler Acquaintances” quest, and speaking to Viriya will add the “In A Pinch” quest.
Viriya will ask you to catch a Juvenile Mudcrab as a bounty. Catch it and speak to her to receive the Riften Fishery Key. Now you can enter the Fishery. She will also give you more bounties and refer you to Belethor’s Shop in Whiterun. From the shop you can get fishing equipment, and location maps.
Inside the Riften Fishery talk to Swims to get his side of the fishing quests. Called ‘Catch of the Day”. This quest tells you to collect a list of fish. You can also get more tips about fishing from him.
Lastly, you can find the Fishing Mastery book in the Fishery. Enter the room on the right and you’ll see this book. This book acts as a portable tutorial and also includes maps of different fishing spots in Riften.
