Moreover, every settlement needs a reliable water source. To fulfill this necessity, you can build a functioning well. There are many ways to go about this, and, like other construction projects, gives you the opportunity to flex your architectural skills.

This guide will look at how you can build a well to fulfill all your irrigation and hydration needs.

Building A Well in Minecraft

Note that the method below is one of many you can use to build a well. However, this guide can be your foundation for building a consistent function well. In fact, it is one of the earliest commonly used builds for a well.

Required Materials for Building a Well

  • 12 Cobblestone
  • 16 Fence
  • 20 Wooden Half Steps
  • 4 Water Buckets
  • 8 Torches(Optional)
  • 12 easy to destroy blocks (e.g. dirt)

Before you start building, you’ll need to plan a location for your well. First, ensure that the well is easily accessible from the rest of your structures. Make sure that it is near a water source, such as a river, lake, etc. Furthermore, ensure that the area around the well is well-lit to prevent mobs from spawning there.
