From VCT 2024, Riot has introduced Championship points in the format. Here is how the point system works.
After a long off-season, the official competitive events for VALORANT are finally returning. The VCT 2024 will start in February with regional Kick-Off tournaments. Riot has already published the official format and road map for the entire season. There are a lot of new additions from the previous year.
Like every VCT season this year also, there will be two Masters events. The first one is in Madrid, and the second is in Shanghai, China. It will be the first official event in China as they have been added to the region list this year. The qualification for these events and the final Champions will be determined by the International League.
The winners and runners-up from these official Riot events qualify for Champions directly. However, for the team that performs consistently but somehow fails to crown in tournaments, Riot introduced a new point system- Championship points.

What are Championship Points?
The Championship Points are one of the newest additions to the VCT 2024 format. These points will best be set to teams as per their performance throughout the year. This will determine the consistency of a team’s performance.
There will be a total of 16 slots in Champions, 4 from each region. The top three seeds will be decided by the playoffs from the International Leagues. However, the fourth and final team will be decided according to Championship points. This will work as a reward for teams that perform exceptionally throughout the year but somehow fail in tournaments.
How Do the Championship Points Work?
Teams will obtain Championship Points throughout the season by playing matches, climbing through the ranks, and more. Here is a complete breakdown of how it works:
- Teams will earn one point for every match won in International League Stages.
- Three points to each league winner.
- Three points for winning Kick-Off tournaments and each Masters event.
- The top-performing team in each region with the most Championship points will qualify for the Champions event.
The Championship points will encourage teams to keep up their hard work throughout the year. Because even if you fail in events somehow, there will still remain hope to qualify for the Champions. This interesting new addition will surely make the upcoming VCT 2024 much more competitive and interesting season.
