Grand Theft Auto 6 may not follow the usual review cycle if a new report is accurate. According to Brazilian journalist PH, Rockstar Games and Take-Two may avoid sending out review codes for GTA 6 ahead of launch, instead choosing a much more controlled setup for press access.
The claim was first shared through Portal Viciados, where PH suggested that “nobody is going to get the key” to the game. The plan could involve a review event where journalists are invited to play GTA 6 in a closed environment rather than receiving early copies at home.
Rockstar is dealing with one of the most anticipated releases in gaming history, and any early code leaking online could create a massive problem before launch.
Rockstar Reportedly Wants to Avoid Leaks
The biggest reason behind this reported decision appears to be leak prevention. GTA 6 has already had a long and messy history with leaks, including the major development footage leak from 2022, so Rockstar may want to keep the final version of the game under extreme control before release.
According to the report, journalists may be sent to a specific location, stay for multiple days, and play the game indoors under supervision. That would allow outlets to experience the game before launch while reducing the risk of review builds being shared, datamined, streamed early, or leaked.
It is a strict method, but it also makes sense when you look at the scale of GTA 6.
GTA 6 Could Skip Traditional Review Codes
It is important to make one thing clear. The report does not claim GTA 6 will skip reviews entirely. Instead, it suggests that Rockstar may change how reviewers get access to the game.
Usually, major outlets receive early review codes and play from their own setup before publishing coverage near launch. In this case, Rockstar could reportedly bring selected journalists into a controlled review environment.
GTA 6 Is Different From Most Game Launches
Most publishers need reviews to build momentum. GTA 6 is in a completely different position. The game is already expected to be one of the biggest entertainment launches ever, and it does not need traditional review coverage to generate hype.
Players will still want to know how the game performs, how the story lands, how the open world feels, and whether the final experience lives up to years of expectations. However, Rockstar likely knows that GTA 6 will sell regardless of whether review codes are sent out in the traditional way.
Rockstar Has Not Confirmed the Report Yet
Rockstar Games has not publicly confirmed whether GTA 6 review codes will be sent out, whether a controlled review event is planned, or how early media coverage will work.
What is confirmed is that GTA 6 is currently scheduled to release on November 19, 2026, after Rockstar delayed the game to allow for more polish.
Until Rockstar or Take-Two makes an official statement, the review code situation remains unconfirmed. Still, the claim has sparked a major discussion because it lines up with what many fans already expect from GTA 6. Rockstar will likely want to keep this game locked down as tightly as possible until launch.
If Rockstar does go with a controlled review event, players may still get reviews before launch, but they could arrive under stricter conditions than usual. Reviewers may have limited capture options, limited time with certain content, or tighter spoiler rules.
