Check out the different graphics modes available on PS4 and PS5 for God of War Ragnarok.

God of War is returning on the 9th of November, and it’s time to revise the Norse Mythology once again. It’s like that meme; people learn chemistry from Breaking Bad, Philosophy from Rick and Morty, English from video games, and especially mythology from God of War. Apart from that, our favorite Father-Son duo will now be roaming around in the Nine Realms after summoning the Fimbulwinter.

Since the reboot, Santa Monica franchise proved that the fourth installment can push the graphical drives to their fullest potential. And to get continued on that path, Ragnarok can now be enjoyed in multiple graphics modes. Thanks to the devs, the latest generation console can finally unleash its true potential because of God Of War Ragnarok.

Graphics Modes in God of War Ragnarok

The brutal and rock-solid gameplay includes several Norse Gods with questionable intentions. These intentions can be visualized in multiple graphics modes, and on top of that, Ragnarok offers these modes both for PS4 and PS5. However, PS4 doesn’t contain all the modes that PS5 has been offered. Anyway, these modes are breathtaking, and that is what we are gonna discuss today.

Before going into the depth, let’s get familiarized with two terms:

HFR: Stands for High Frame Rate. Refers to 120Hz support and unlocked frame rate above 60fps.
VRR: Stands for Variable Refresh Rate. To ensure a smooth gameplay, the screen will refresh seamlessly.

Graphic Modes for PS5

Below are the Six different Graphic modes that are available on the PS5:

Favor Performance

  • 1440-2160p
  • 60 FPS Target

The target FPS is said to be met to the end, while the approximate resolution will be around 1872p. However, it is expected to get the highest, 4k resolution, from time to time.

Favor Performance + HFR

  • 1440p
  • Unlocked 60 FPS

Resolution is said to be locked at 1440p. Moreover, the fps is unlocked. Means you will be getting on average of 80-90 fps. However, to get the full taste, your display should be at least 120Hz.

Favor Performance + HFR + VRR

  • 1440p
  • Unlocked 60 FPS

With everything remaining the same, the VRR is here to reduce the so-called screen tearing that comes with a visual that is out of sync. In other words, with this mode enabled, your display will refresh along with the in-game frame refresh to hold onto that sharp visual.

Favor Quality

  • 2160p (Native 4K)
  • 30 FPS Target

A guaranteed 4K resolution will cost you the frame rate. And the cost is quite locked to 30 fps. However, the solid frame pacing can cover up the flawless frame rate with that stunning visual. And, of course, you need a 4K display.

Favor Quality + HFR

  • 1800-2160p
  • 40 FPS Target

The target FPS is said to be met at 40, while the approximate resolution will be around 1800p. However, it will hit 4K occasionally. And to talk about the frame rate, it is pretty insignificant to be palpable. Well, I am assuming it might be the most chosen mode.

Favor Quality + HFR + VRR

  • 1800-2160p
  • Unlocked 40 FPS

The VRR is added to let you feel the extra visual clarity. However, there is a catch. You will be getting an unlocked 40 fps schedule. Means you have a greater chance to explore above that from time to time.

Graphic Modes for PS4

PS4 Standard

  • 1080p
  • 30 FPS Target

The base model will have the base performance while the fps is locked at 30. Doesn’t mean that you will enjoy less; well, quite a bit. However, you will feel Ragnarok as a DLC in this mode.

PS4 PRO Favor Performance

  • 1080-1656p
  • Unlocked 30 FPS

Now, if your PS4 is the pro version, you will get the Favor Performance and the Quality mode. In the Performance mode, the fps is unlocked while the resolution can go high as up to 1656p. Enough to live a day.

PS4 PRO Favor Quality

  • 1440-1656p
  • 30 FPS Target

You will taste the 2K in the Favor Quality at the very least. However, your frame will be capped at 30—a soul for a soul.

That’s it mate, the cycle ends here. And that is all I had for the graphics modes in God Of War Ragnarok. To the Valhalla!
