New insider information revealed that Final Fantasy VII Remake is coming to Xbox.

Final Fantasy VII Remake is an action role-playing game by Square Enix and released for PlayStation 4 in April 2020. Later, an enhanced version was released for the PlayStation 5 and Windows PC in 2021. The game became one of the fastest-selling PlayStation 4 games, selling over 3.5 million units within three days and over 7 million units by September 2023.

Even though the game was released for PC, Square Enix did not give any indication that the game would be coming to Xbox. However, Xbox head Phil Spencer discussed the possibilities and said he and Square Enix discussed the company’s commitment to Xbox. As a result, the critically acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy 14 Online is set to release on Xbox Series X|S in the Spring of this year.

Windows Central managing editor Jez Corden has recently revealed that Microsoft is reportedly in talks to bring the Final Fantasy 7 remake to Xbox Series consoles.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Coming to Xbox?

On the most recent episode of The Xbox Two podcast, Windows Central managing editor Jez Corden said,

“I’ve got evidence tentatively that there are discussions about Final Fantasy 7 for Xbox. Maybe Sony and Square Enix both wouldn’t want to take the shine off [FF7] Rebirth right now by announcing FF7 Remake for Xbox, but I do think it’ll happen.”

Jez Corden then mentioned that Sony and Square Enix are probably focused on the release of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on the PlayStation 5 and don’t want to start discussing anything released to Xbox. However, Corden believes that Square Enix and Microsoft will work on bringing the FF7 Remake after the release of FF7 Rebirth.

Corden mentioned that Square Enix doesn’t want to discuss or have plans to bring the Final Fantasy 7 remake to Xbox because they probably want to avoid stealing the spotlight from FF7 Rebirth, which is releasing on February 29, 2024. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is a timed exclusive, so the title could soon be coming to Windows PC within a few months.

As for the possible release of Final Fantasy 7 Remake on the Xbox, both Microsoft and Square Enix will work on bringing more titles to the franchise soon. Since Final Fantasy 14 Online is coming to Xbox this year, more Final Fantasy games will make their way to Microsoft’s current generation consoles in the future.
