Every act in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
In Expedition 33, the people of the island of Lumiere suffer through an event known as the “Gommage.” During the Gommage, the Paintress paints an age that decreases each year, and everyone above that age fades away.
You take control of the latest in a series of expedition of volunteers, who set out, every year, after the Gommage, on a journey to take down the Paintress. It is a journey no one has returned from yet.
Expedition 33 has 3 Acts and a prologue and epilogue that focus on various characters throughout the game.
Expedition 33 is on the shorter side compared to most RPGs. However, it will still take you at least 30 hours to complete the main story of Expedition 33. Moreover, it will take an extra 30 hours to complete all its side content.
In this article, we’ve listed all the acts you’ll play through in Expedition 33, what takes place in each act, as well as the areas you’ll explore.

Prologue
The prologue follows Gustave and his lover, Sophie, as they meet one last time.
The rest of Lumiere’s citizens also gather to say their final farewells before the Paintress paints next cursed number.
At the end we see Sophie fading away before Gustave joins the next Expedition to take down the Paintress, which is soon ambushed by an old white-haired man leading an army of monsters.
Act 1: Gustave
This is the first main act of Expedition 33. It starts with Gustave waking up and discovering that most of his expedition was killed in the attack. Gustave manages to find another survivor, a scholar named Lune, and with her help starts searching for the rest of the survivors.

- Find the Gestral Village in the Middle of the Ancient Sanctuary
- Ask Golgra, the Chief of the Gestrals, for a Way to Cross the Sea

Act 2: Verso
Now under Verso’s lead, the Expedition regroups after the tragedy at the end of Act 1 and looks to finally take down the Paintress.

- Recruit Monoco, Verso’s Best Friend, at His Station in the Mountains
- Find and Destroy the Paintress’ Heart in the Centre of Old Lumiere

Act 3: Maelle
Act 3 picks up after the twist ending of Act 2, and with the truth about Alicia and Verso revealed, we now follow Maelle as she faces off against Renoir and tries to save Lumiere from destruction.

Epilogue
The epilogue you get depends on the choice you make at the end of Act 3, which decides the fate of both Lumiere and Verso.
