Yes! We are finally getting a continuation in the Elden Ring universe with Elden Ring Nightreign. There are some things that you may have missed.
Elden Ring is arguably the most renowned soulslike game ever created. Inspired by their previous works like Demonsouls, Darksouls, and Sekiro this open world, action-rpg is considered to be one of the best games of all time.
While it seemed there were no more Elden ring after that massive DLC, Miyazaki caught us off guard again!
FromSoft dropped the trailer of their latest project coming in 2025 and that is Elden Ring Nightreign. While the game is still in development the trailer and news from testers have given us quite a few remarks. The base game released in 2022 has become an icon among gamers across the globe and it seems we are getting more from the Lands Between soon.
Here are 5 things that you may have missed regarding Elden Ring Nightreign:
It’s Not an Elden Ring DLC Expansion
With the title being similar to the DLC, Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree, many may think that this is another DLC expansion but no. Elden Ring Nightreign is going to be an entire game by itself with the price being around the cost of DLC.
New Focus on Gameplay Mechanics
From the trailer, you may have already noticed that there different playing mechanics in the game. The movement is much faster, there are different players characters, and weapons that we have seen in the base Elden Ring or in the DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree.
The gameplay will consist of fast-paced action and surround around player’s unique classes and mechanics. Co-Op will take priority here but you can go solo too but your experience won’t be completed without the Co-Op action.
Not Your Standard Souls-Like
Unlike other Soulslike games, this time around you can’t just level up stats and decide to reign over your builds. There 8 classes from which you can choose and you will level up those classes upon dungeon completion.
You will get the rune system which will level up your character not just a single stat. Weapons will be obtained through similar measures. This time it’s more toward dungeon completion than open-world exploration. You will also get a flying companion.
Previous Ips Coming Back?
If you have seen the trailers then you already know that characters and bosses from Dark Souls 3 will make an appearance in the game and also play a significant role. But that’s not all. Some of the gameplay shown in the trailer looks almost identical to Sekiro and I am pretty sure I watched a Demon Souls boss just reskinned.
With only 4 or 5 classes being shown, I think we might see the Hunter from Bloodborne and the Eldric enemies (especially if Sony buys FromSoft according to the rumors) in the game too.
Closing Loose Ends
There is already a debate in the community whether Elden Ring NightReign is a continuation of the story after Shadow of the Erdtree or a story from before. It seems to me that this might be something before we started our journey to become the Elden Lord as the lands between looks alive and there are voice lines from Mohg in the trailer. But we need more information to find out.
