Riot has recently revealed more details about the Rell rework.

Thematically, Rell, The Iron Maiden, is one of League of Legends’ most intriguing champions. She has a fantastic design, a good concept, and a well-written backstory; however, she falls short in terms of gameplay.

Rell is a tank support champion known for her crowd control abilities and ability to absorb damage for her team. However, unlike other supports, she doesn’t offer much in terms of gameplay. She lacks the damage to be a threat in the lane; she isn’t the best outside lane either, but most importantly, she feels very clunky to play. When playing Rell, it feels like you are playing an outdated champion, even though she was released only two years ago. So the players, especially the Rell mains, have been asking for a rework for quite some time.

Finally, adhering to the player’s wishes, Riot announced that they would rework Rell. But since the announcement, Riot hasn’t revealed much about the rework. But recently, Riot has finally revealed some more information about the upcoming Rell rework. They also went into detail about how they approach the rework and what kind of changes they are bringing.

In this article, we will discuss what players can expect from this update.

Possible Rework Changes

In the recent Dev Blog, Riot shared where the Rell update process is going and how much it has progressed. Riot emphasizes that they are keeping the mounted lancer theme and expanding more on it. They are also expanding on the exciting fantasy and playstyle around swapping between mounted and unmounted forms.

For the rework process, Riot has set up some goals for themselves, and they believe that these goals will help her live up to her potential. These goals are,

  • Lean into the Mounted/Dismounted fantasy: Let Rell feel fast—like she can charge enemies down while mounted—and let her feel like a formidable fighter while dismounted.
  • Increase Play Pattern Variance: Give Rell more options in lane and team fights besides landing W, and make sure that while she’s dismounted, there are useful things she can do.
  • Sand off some QoL issues: Smooth out things like poor ward clearing, not being able to use E while alone, and Q having reduced power on subsequent enemies.

In terms of abilities, Riot has not solidified anything yet, but they are looking to increase the impact of her Q ability, boost her dismount form attack speed and range, and, most importantly, soften the self-slow.

Additionally, Riot is also working on Rell’s finishing touches, like VFX, SFX, and animations and fixing some bugs.

Possible Rework Release Date

The release date for the upcoming Rell rework has not been revealed yet. But Riot has stated that it will come after the Neeko Rework. So, we can expect the rework sometime in Spring.
