Dave Bautista Could Become the New Kratos
According to the latest reports, Bautista is currently being considered to step into the role of the Ghost of Sparta. A deal has not been officially announced, meaning his casting as Kratos is not yet confirmed. However, negotiations are underway as Amazon searches for a new leading man for its ambitious video game adaptation.
Bautista has frequently been linked to physically demanding video game roles by fans. Beyond his professional wrestling background, he has built an impressive acting career through projects such as Guardians of the Galaxy, Dune, Knock at the Cabin, and Blade Runner 2049. His imposing presence makes him an understandable choice for Kratos, while the character’s emotional depth could offer Bautista another major dramatic role.
Ryan Hurst was originally cast as Kratos and had reportedly completed filming four episodes before production was paused. The actor suffered a bicep injury while performing a stunt and later underwent surgery. With his recovery expected to take longer than the production schedule could accommodate, the lead role is now being recast.
The four completed episodes are expected to be filmed again once a new Kratos actor is secured. Hurst already had a connection to the franchise after voicing Thor in 2022’s God of War Ragnarök.
The Prime Video adaptation is being led by showrunner Ronald D. Moore and will draw from 2018’s God of War. The story follows Kratos and his son Atreus as they travel to spread Faye’s ashes while confronting Norse gods and navigating their difficult father-son relationship.
Bautista has not officially become Kratos yet, but his involvement would instantly make Amazon’s God of War one of the most closely watched video game adaptations currently in development.
