During its E3 2021 Ubisoft Forward presentation, Ubisoft announced that cross-progression and some crossplay options will be finally introduced to Rainbow Six Siege.

In February 2021, former game director Jean-Baptiste Halle said in an interview with PC gamer that they were “actively working on cross-progression and crossplay”. Two weeks ago, Ubisoft started testing crossplay between PC and cloud gaming platforms, and teased further information to be released in the E3 2021 event.

And now Ubisoft has confirmed that crossplay and cross-progression between PC, Stadia, and Luna will be arriving on June 30 this year.

Xbox and Playstation users will also receive crossplay support; however, this feature will be limited to consoles only, so PC players won’t be able to play with console users just yet. While this limited support might not seem very enticing for many people, it is still a very important step for Ubisoft as they continue to develop crossplay for more platforms in the future.

When it came to crossplay with PC and console, Jean-Baptiste Halle wasn’t quite sure if it would be the best idea. “I can see the pros, but I can also see the cons,” Halle said about PC-console crossplay in the PC gamer interview.

Much of this concern comes from the obvious mouse and keyboard advantage that PC players have. So just like every other crossplay titles, Ubisoft will have to figure out a solution for this issue.

On the other hand, the highly anticipated cross-progression is coming in the future, and this will be available between all platforms. Cross-progression will allow players to transfer all their contents when shifting to a different platform. So, you’ll be able to bring all your special in-game skins and progress when moving from console to PC or vice versa. This feature is set to be released in early 2022.

Crossplay and cross-progression will surely provide a substantial boost to Rainbow Six Siege’s growth, and it’s a big win for the Siege community.
