Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II is apparently returning on Steam. The last CoD title to get released on Steam was Sledgehammer’s WWII.

Activision Blizzard’s game launcher and storefront Battle.net was first introduced in 1996. The launcher is infamous for World of Warcraft and is the only way to access CoD games, Warzone, and Overwatch.

Infinity Ward’s MW(2019) was released on Battle.net. Everything was smooth until Warzone’s release. After the release of Warzone, fans were discontent with the launcher. There were numerous issues with the launcher that were surfacing suddenly.

The most prominent issues of the launcher were server unavailability and game optimization issues. Considering these pressing issues, a steam release would be a breath of fresh air for CoD fans. A steam release would add to the game’s positivity factors as well.

Is MWII getting a Steam Release?

A recent store page update for CoD with MWII’s artwork suggests the game might get a Steam release. This is the first time since 2017 that a CoD title is getting a Steam release. All Activision Blizzard games are Battle.net exclusives right now.

Fans are excited about the franchise’s return to Steam. Many have expressed concern that it may not be all it’s cracked up to be. However, most players will be happy if the game returns on Steam.

However, clicking the ‘explore more’ link redirects everyone to the Steam storefront. Second, if the game is made available on Steam, players may be required to have Battle.Net installed on their PC to run Modern Warfare 2, even if they purchase it on Steam.

Everything is still a rumor, and an official announcement will make it clear to everyone. A steam release would be beneficial for both the game and its community. The game’s pricing might differ on Steam depending on the region, whereas on Battle.net, the price remains the same in almost every region.
