Bungie accidentally gave Marathon players a much better weekly login reward than intended, but instead of simply correcting the mistake, the developer has decided to compensate everyone.
The Marathon development team confirmed that this week’s login reward contained an incorrectly configured Shield Implant. Players received a Prestige Shield Implant that was effectively carrying stats from the Superior rarity tier, creating an unusual mismatch between the item’s rarity and its actual attributes.

Marathon Login Reward Accidentally Had the Wrong Stats
According to the Marathon Development Team, this week’s login reward “arrived with a little more gold than it had earned.” Bungie explained that the reward mistakenly granted players a Prestige Shield Implant with Superior rarity stats.
As implant rarity determines the total amount of stats an implant provides, accidentally giving away high-tiered loot could be detrimental to the loot economy. Bungie reworked the implant system with Season 2 so that higher rarity tiers generally provide stronger stat packages.
Weekly login rewards were originally introduced to Marathon in Update 1.1.0.2 in June. Players can find these rewards under the “today’s sponsors” section of the Armory.
Bungie Is Giving Everyone a Prestige Reinforced Shield Implant
Rather than taking back the mistakenly configured reward or leaving players who missed it at a disadvantage, Bungie says it will send one Prestige Reinforced Shield Implant to everyone’s in-game mailbox.
The Prestige Reinforced Shields V2 is particularly valuable because it grants an additional Reinforced Shield slot, with reinforced shields taking half damage.
Bungie apologized for the confusion and thanked players for reporting the problem. In the end, what started as a reward configuration mistake has turned into an unexpected bonus for the wider Marathon community.
