Baldur’s Gate 3 is quite unique in its death and revive mechanisms. Here we will discuss how you can revive characters in the game.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is based on the Dungeon and Dragons 5th edition rules. And in that, death is handled differently than in your typical RPG games. Usually, you can talk to the necromancer to bring back any dead person if you have the gold for it. But the actual process of dying goes like this.
Once a party member’s health point reaches zero, a dice throw will initiate. This is called Rolling for Saving Throws. If your character rolls less than 10, they will get a death counter, and if above 10 is rolled, they will get a stability counter. Getting three successful rolls will revive the character, while not getting it will lead to death.
However, there are a few ways to save the party member during the rolling process. This is what we are going to discuss in this section.

Reviving Characters During Saving Throws
There are a few ways to revive the party member if they are in the process of Rolling for Saving Throws. These are:
- Help Command: If you have another character within five feet, the other character can use the help command to revive the character bypassing all the rolls. But this will consume a turn for the character. Thus, you need to make sure the character that is helping is relatively safe to do so.
- Healing Spell: A healing spell can actually help a party member and prevent him from dying during the rolling phase. If one of your party members can cast healing, do that to bypass the rolls and save your teammate.
- Scroll of Revivify: If you have a Scroll of Revivify, you can bring back your dead teammate. However, this is not an item that is used during the rolling phase. You can only use it if the character has failed to get 3 successful rolls and died. Also, each scroll costs 200 gold making it really expensive.
Necromancer Can Revive Teammate
During a counter, if you don’t want to revive a character, you can just leave them like that. To revive them after the combat, you will have two different ways:
- Scroll of Revivify: If you don’t have a scroll during the combat encounter, you can buy one after the encounter and go back to the place where your teammate died. Then all you have to do is use the scroll to bring him/her back.
- Necromancer: The necromancer can bring back your dead ally after the encounter. The upside of using a necromancer to revive is you don’t need to return to your fallen ally’s place. The necromancer will bring him/her back into the camp automatically.
