Owlbears are massive creatures with the body of bears, but they look more like owls. In Baldur’s Gate 3, you can get an Owlbear Cub. Here is how to do it:
Baldur’s Gate 3 is full of different choices. Depending on your choice, your story can play out fairly differently than the others. And if you are playing an origin character, that applies to your character the most. Sometimes, the choice will lead to having a potential party member, while other times, it will get you into a conflict you could have avoided.
Owlbear Cub has a choice like this associated with it. When you are on your way to Baldur’s Gate City, you will find two people mourning their dead brother off the beaten path. When approached, they will let you know an owlbear killed him. Then, following them will get you to an owlbear cub. Here, we will discuss how to get the owlbear cub for yourself.

Do not Kill the Owlbear Cub
Since you found the Owlbear cave that killed those NPC’s brothers, you can now try to engage it or leave it there. If you have enough animal handling skills, you can try to reason with the owlbear mother not to attack you. However, even if you succeed in persuading her, if you get too close to the cub, it will attack.
If you want to leave the cave, that is fine. But if you want to fight the mother, the cub will also join the fight. The cub is pretty weak, and if you kill it here, you will not be able to get it for your camp. So, leave the cub and fight the mother alone. After you kill the mother, the cub will stop attacking.
Rescue the Cub from Goblin Camp
After you encounter the mother and cub owlbear, no matter if you let the mother live or die, the owlbear cub will end up captured in the goblin camp. If you are on good terms with the goblin, you can convince them to let you pass. You need to go and talk to Krolla in the camp. Talk to her and tell her you will take the cub.
You will get a few options here, including one to bribe her. Choose whichever option is more suitable for you. Then, you can talk to the owlbear and offer it to follow your scent before leaving. This is important because if you don’t speak to it, it will not find its way back to your camp.
If you are not on good terms with the goblins, fight the cub and talk to it. You will need to wipe out the whole camp in this case. So be prepared for a big fight.
